Toyota recall 25V767 covers 126,691 potentially affected vehicles—not every vehicle in the listed model years. Certain 2022–2024 Toyota Tundras, 2022–2024 Lexus LXs and 2024 Lexus GXs with a particular V35A engine configuration may contain machining debris that can damage engine bearings and lead to a stall. Check the vehicle’s VIN with Toyota or NHTSA to find out whether it is included; eligible inspection and repairs are free.
Which Toyota and Lexus vehicles are included?
NHTSA campaign 25V767, titled “Debris in Engine May Cause Stall,” identifies 126,691 potentially affected vehicles. Toyota’s filing divides that population as follows:
| Vehicle | Potentially affected vehicles |
|---|---|
| 2022–2024 Toyota Tundra | 113,079 |
| 2022–2024 Lexus LX | 9,895 |
| 2024 Lexus GX | 3,717 |
These counts come from Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing’s filing published by NHTSA in 2025. The recall is limited to certain V35A engine configurations and production periods, so a matching model and year do not establish that a specific vehicle is affected. Toyota could not estimate how many of the potentially involved vehicles actually contain the defect. The filing’s “1%” field means “unknown,” not a measured defect rate. See the NHTSA recall acknowledgement and Toyota’s Part 573 report filed with NHTSA.
What is the engine defect, and what is the risk?
Toyota says machining debris of a particular size and amount may not have been cleared during manufacture. If debris contaminates the engine and adheres to its main bearings, continued operation under higher loads over time may cause bearing failure. The filing lists engine knocking, rough running, failure to start and engine stall as possible symptoms.

If the engine stalls while the vehicle is moving, it can lose motive power and create a crash risk, particularly at higher speeds. NHTSA’s acknowledgement states, “A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.” The filing does not say every recalled vehicle will fail, or that every vehicle with the potential defect has experienced a crash.
How to check whether your vehicle is affected
- Find the VIN. Use the vehicle’s 17-character vehicle identification number. It is commonly visible through the windshield on the driver’s side and on vehicle documents.
- Search Toyota’s recall lookup. Enter the VIN at Toyota’s recall lookup. The site also accepts a license-plate search and covers Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles intended for sale or sold in the U.S., U.S. territories and Mexico.
- Check NHTSA as well. Use NHTSA’s recall lookup to search by VIN or plate. NHTSA notes that VIN records for some newly announced recalls may be added continuously.
- Contact an authorized Toyota or Lexus dealer if the lookup shows an open campaign. Ask about recall 25V767 and arrange the prescribed inspection. A model-year match alone is not confirmation, and an online result can change as records are updated.
What repair does the recall provide?
A Toyota or Lexus dealer uses inspection software and available vehicle drive data to inspect the #1 main bearing. If the inspection cannot confirm that the bearing is free from abnormal wear related to the issue, the dealer replaces the engine. Toyota says the specified safety-recall inspection and repair are performed at no charge to the vehicle owner. The remedy is described in the NHTSA Part 573 report and Toyota’s recall and campaign information.

A NHTSA-data-based record read October 6, 2026, reported that owner letters for 25V767 were mailed August 28, 2026, and that no completion figure had yet been filed. That is a dated snapshot, not a live guarantee of an individual vehicle’s status. Check Toyota or NHTSA for the latest VIN-level information before arranging service.
