The Toyota X-VAN GEAR was a concept, not a vehicle announced for sale. Toyota Auto Body showed it at Japan Mobility Show 2023 as a cab wagon that pairs a passenger-minivan-sized cabin with SUV-inspired styling. Its most distinctive ideas were a large B-pillar-less door opening for loading hobby gear and a six-seat cabin designed to shift between passenger and activity use.
What is the Toyota X-VAN GEAR Concept?
The X-VAN GEAR was Toyota Auto Body’s proposal for a “next-generation cab wagon” aimed at varied lifestyles. Rather than presenting it as a conventional large SUV, Toyota framed the concept around combining a spacious passenger cabin with an active, SUV-like exterior. The vehicle was exhibited as a world-premiere concept at Japan Mobility Show 2023.
The “breath of fresh air” case is in its packaging ideas, not in any verified performance claim: Toyota emphasized an open-feeling cabin, flexible seating, and easier access for bulky recreation equipment.
How does the cabin and door design work?
Toyota described a three-row cabin with six seats and a B-pillar-less door layout that creates a broad opening when the doors are opened. The intended benefit was easier loading of hobby items such as bicycles and fishing rods. Toyota’s exhibit materials also highlighted a simple driver area, bright sofa-like seats, and a ceiling designed to make the cabin feel open.

What makes its approach different from a large SUV?
The concept’s distinction is its stated emphasis on cabin access and adaptable passenger-and-cargo use.
