The company’s October 1 release also reported third-quarter sales, but it did not provide a U.S. production total through September. Sales growth therefore cannot verify the headline’s production claim.
How many vehicles did Toyota sell in September 2026?
Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) reported 201,306 U.S. vehicle sales for September, an 8.4% increase by volume compared with September 2025. On a daily selling rate (DSR) basis—which adjusts the comparison for selling days—the increase was 4.0%. Toyota’s September 2026 U.S. sales release gives both comparisons.
Electrified vehicles accounted for 117,215 sales, up 37.8% by volume and 32.2% on a DSR basis year over year. They made up 58.2% of TMNA’s reported September U.S. sales. Toyota said its Toyota and Lexus lineups offered 32 electrified vehicle options through dealerships.
What did Toyota report for the third quarter?
TMNA reported 633,223 U.S. vehicle sales in Q3 2026, up 0.6% by volume and 0.6% on a DSR basis year over year. Electrified vehicles totaled 363,367, an increase of 28.5%, and represented 57.4% of quarterly sales. The quarterly figures are reported in the same company release.

The contrast is notable: September’s 8.4% volume gain was much stronger than the quarter’s 0.6% gain. These are sales figures, not factory-output figures.
Toyota division and Lexus sales

Although Lexus recorded the higher September growth rate, Toyota division accounted for the larger sales volume. Toyota reported 104,105 September electrified sales for its division, up 36.6%, and 13,110 for Lexus, up 47.4%. These division figures are company-reported sales data. TMNA’s release does not describe them as production totals.

Did Toyota U.S. production increase through September?
The available official figures do not establish whether Toyota’s U.S. production increased through September 2026, or by how much. TMNA’s September/Q3 release reports U.S. sales, not a U.S.-specific production total. Sales measure vehicles sold; they are not a substitute for vehicles built.
Toyota Motor Corporation’s global production, sales and exports archive listed August 2026 as its latest monthly result on October 8, 2026. That global reporting is not evidence of September U.S. production. Toyota’s North America facilities overview, current as of May 8, 2026, describes manufacturing companies and their product portfolios, but does not state production volume or year-over-year growth through September.

A production comparison would need U.S.-built units for the period and a like-for-like comparison with the same period a year earlier, with the reporting scope clearly defined. No such September year-to-date comparison is established by these sources.

The company’s reported sales figures show that September growth outpaced Q3 growth and that electrified vehicles made up more than half of sales in both periods. They do not demonstrate an increase in U.S. factory output. TMNA senior vice president Andrew Gilleland said the third-quarter results reflected customer demand for choice, but his comment concerns the sales strategy, not production.
