Certain 2025–2026 Toyota Camry Hybrids and 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrids are covered by a U.S. safety recall because a bolt inside the hybrid inverter may not have been tightened properly. NHTSA says that can cause loss of motive power or an electrical short while the vehicle is powered on, increasing fire risk. The recall applies to specific vehicles, not every car in those model years. Check your 17-character VIN with Toyota or NHTSA, then contact a Toyota dealer to confirm whether your vehicle needs the repair.
Which Toyota hybrids are included in the fire-risk recall?
NHTSA campaign 25V869 covers certain 2025–2026 Camry Hybrids and certain 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrids. Toyota identifies the campaigns as 25TB15 and 25TA15. A model year or model name alone cannot establish whether a particular vehicle is included; the VIN determines eligibility.

NHTSA lists 55,405 potentially involved vehicles. Toyota’s December 2025 FAQ rounded the total to approximately 55,400: about 51,640 Camry Hybrids and 3,760 Corolla Cross Hybrids. Toyota gave approximate production windows of late August to mid-November 2025 for Camry Hybrid and late August to late November 2025 for Corolla Cross Hybrid. These figures and dates narrow the context but are not a substitute for checking a VIN. Toyota’s filing says the percentage of vehicles with the defect is unknown; the required “1” entry in the report is not a measured 1% defect rate.

The issue is a bolt in the hybrid powertrain inverter that may not have been tightened adequately. If the bolt does not provide complete electrical contact at the inverter terminal, the vehicle may lose motive power. A loose bolt may also cause an electrical short while the vehicle is powered on, increasing the risk of fire. NHTSA’s December 22, 2025 acknowledgment states: “In addition, a loose bolt can cause an electrical short while the vehicle is powered on, increasing the risk of a fire.”

How do I check whether my Toyota is recalled?
- Find the 17-character VIN. It is typically visible through the windshield on the driver’s side of the dashboard and on vehicle registration or insurance documents.
- Check Toyota’s recall lookup. Enter the VIN on Toyota’s recall page. Toyota’s lookup is VIN-based; if it cannot display details, try again later or contact a dealer.
- Check NHTSA’s recall lookup. Search the same VIN at NHTSA’s recall page for vehicle-specific recall information.
- Contact a Toyota dealer. Ask whether campaign 25TB15 or 25TA15 applies to your VIN, whether the remedy is available, and how to arrange service. Do not rely on the model year alone.
Is the Toyota recall repair available, and is it free?
Toyota says specified safety recall inspections and repairs are performed at no charge. Its December 16, 2025 FAQ specifically said the remedy “will be offered FREE OF CHARGE.” However, that FAQ estimated a first-quarter 2026 remedy, and NHTSA’s December 22, 2025 acknowledgment said the remedy was under development at that time. Those statements are historical, not confirmation of today’s remedy status. The available records do not establish whether the repair is currently available; confirm the status for your VIN with Toyota or a dealer.

Is the 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid recall the same as the inverter-bolt recall?
No. The inverter-bolt campaign is NHTSA 25V869 and involves certain 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrids, as well as certain 2025–2026 Camry Hybrids. A separate campaign, NHTSA 26V203, covers certain 2023–2025 Corolla Cross Hybrids because the pedestrian warning sound may be quieter than intended while reversing. Toyota said dealers would provide a free software update for that separate issue.
