Toyota’s RAV-X is a Dakar-inspired off-road concept based on a 2024 RAV4 plug-in hybrid. Unveiled at the 2024 SEMA Show, it combines custom long-travel suspension, added clearance and width, underbody armor, and bespoke bodywork. It is a show concept—not a production RAV4 trim or a confirmed retail conversion kit.
What is the Toyota RAV-X?
The RAV-X is a concept developed by Toyota’s Service Parts and Accessories Development (SPAD) team for the 2024 SEMA Show. Toyota described it as an exploration of a more rugged, off-road-focused RAV4. “Dakar-inspired” refers to its styling and intent; Toyota did not say the vehicle competed in the Dakar Rally. Toyota’s November 5, 2024 announcement is the source for the build details and specifications below.
Is the RAV-X a real production RAV4?
No. Toyota presented the RAV-X as a concept, not as a production trim or a conversion package available to order. The announcement describes a one-off show build and does not establish that its custom parts are sold to RAV4 owners.
What was the RAV-X based on?
Toyota says the concept began with a 2024 RAV4 PHEV. The release gives the base vehicle’s output as about 302 net combined horsepower before the addition of a ram-air intake. That figure is Toyota’s stated specification for the base powertrain, not an independently measured result for the modified concept.

What modifications does the RAV-X have?
Toyota’s description covers suspension, dimensions, wheels and tires, protection, and custom exterior pieces. The figures are manufacturer-reported concept specifications; Toyota’s release does not provide independent off-road test results.

What the changes are intended to do
Toyota says the modifications were intended to improve ground clearance and approach and departure angles. The release does not give measured clearance, approach or departure angles, suspension travel, or results from an off-road test. The added height and track width describe changes Toyota reported for this concept, not measurements for a regular RAV4 with aftermarket parts.

Can you buy the RAV-X parts?
Toyota’s RAV-X announcement does not identify a retail kit, list individual RAV-X components as available for purchase, or confirm fitment on an unmodified RAV4. The fact that a component is described on the concept does not establish that it is sold separately or compatible with another RAV4.
The tire size Toyota lists for the concept is 265/65R17. It is a useful reference when looking up that size, but it is not proof that those tires—or the concept’s wheels—fit a stock RAV4. Confirm tire and wheel clearance, load rating, and vehicle-specific fitment before buying. Toyota’s broader references to accessories do not establish a specific RAV-X part or its availability.

Its redesigned lower bumper sections and side skirts retained factory fenders and overall proportions. Toyota also cautioned that special project vehicles may use parts unavailable from Toyota, may affect warranty, performance, or safety, and may not be street legal. - Sixth-generation RAV4: Toyota Motor Corporation announced the generation’s world premiere on May 21, 2025, describing PHEV and HEV versions and Core, Adventure, and GR SPORT styles. Those later-generation details are not specifications for the 2024 RAV-X. Toyota’s sixth-generation announcement identifies the newer vehicle.
- Aftermarket access for the 2026 RAV4: SEMA reported a December 3, 2025 measuring session at its Diamond Bar, California garage, where aftermarket manufacturers could access dimensions, scan the vehicle, and test-fit prototypes. That activity concerns product development for the later platform; it does not establish RAV-X part availability or compatibility across generations. SEMA’s report describes the session.
