Called the KUHL OUTROAD GR86 LIFTUP, the car appeared at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026—but its official listing says the exhibit is not permitted on public roads.
What makes this GR86 a safari-style build?
The build takes a low sports coupe and gives it the stance and equipment associated with rough-road driving. Its defining changes are a KUHL lift-up suspension, an AIRFORCE hydraulic lifter, YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR A/T tires, front and rear brush bars, and a light bar. KUHL also fitted a 25 mm wide fender kit to accommodate the wider-looking setup.
The official Tokyo Auto Salon listing specifies 18×8.5J+30 VERZ-FORGED NEXSUS NEX02 wheels and 225/50R18 tires. These are the specifications of the displayed car, not a guarantee of fitment on every GR86. Tokyo Auto Salon’s exhibit listing identifies the full show-car configuration.
What equipment did KUHL add?
The exhibit specification includes changes beyond its appearance and suspension. The following are listed on the show car:

The listing documents what was fitted to this concept vehicle; it does not establish that every part is sold as a package, fits all GR86 model years, or has been validated for off-road use.
How much lift does the OUTROAD package offer?
KUHL’s product page describes the broader OUTROAD GR86 package as having a 3-inch lift. It says the hydraulic lifter can raise the car by a further 40 mm when engaged. Those are manufacturer specifications for the product line, not an independent measurement of the Tokyo Auto Salon car’s ride height. KUHL’s OUTROAD GR86 page also describes a bolt-on TRUST turbo kit as optional and claims it adds up to 50 hp; that figure is KUHL’s claim, not an independently verified result for this exhibit.

It should therefore be understood as a concept/show vehicle, not a ready-to-drive road conversion. The listing does not establish the legality of a different build using some of the same parts.
When and where was it shown?
Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 took place January 9–11, 2026, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, according to the event schedule and venue listing. KUHL JAPAN entered the car as exhibit 50804 in the Concept Car category. The event’s official report lists it among the category’s 優秀賞 entries, reasonably rendered as a runner-up or Excellence Award—not the overall winner. What the build does—and does not—show
The appeal is the contrast: a compact, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe given a raised, rugged visual treatment rather than a conventional lowered street-car stance. The display’s listed tires, suspension, protection and lighting make that concept tangible, while its turbo and cockpit modifications add to the show-car specification. The official material establishes the parts and concept, but it does not provide independent performance tests, demonstrated off-road capability, or a road-legal conversion recipe.
