The game launched May 19, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S and PC and is now playable on both platforms.
What role does the GR GT Prototype play in Forza Horizon 6?
Forza describes the 2025 GR GT Prototype as a “race-derived road car” and says the game marks its video-game debut. It shares cover-car billing with the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser, but the two vehicles represent different sides of Toyota: the GR GT Prototype is Toyota Gazoo Racing’s race-derived car, while the Land Cruiser is the other featured cover vehicle.
The game is set in Japan, and its announcement presents it as a way to experience Toyota Gazoo Racing’s latest model. Playground Games collaborated with Toyota to represent both cover cars accurately in the game, according to Xbox Wire’s January 22, 2026 report.
You drive it near the start
The GR GT Prototype is more than cover art: Xbox Wire reports that players drive it during the “Initial Experience,” the game’s opening sequence. Playground Games design director Torben Ellert described it as “the first 10 minutes of the game where you get to drive the car, almost as a prelude.” The launch roster was reported at around 550 cars.

What is—and is not—known about this version of the car?
In the game, its stated identity is the 2025 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR GT Prototype. The official game announcement and Xbox Wire’s coverage establish its cover-car and opening-sequence roles, but do not provide specifications such as power output or establish a production status, real-world sale date, or MSRP. The game’s appearance should not be taken as evidence of those real-world details.
