Toyota’s G20E is a developing 2.0-liter turbocharged engine designed to package more output in less space than the company’s existing 2.4-liter turbo. Toyota says its targets include 10% less engine volume and 10% less overall height, but it has not published a final power figure or confirmed a production-car launch in the official material covered here. The engine has appeared in the GR Yaris M Concept, a development prototype participating in Super Taikyu.
What is Toyota’s G20E engine?
The G20E is Toyota’s compact 2.0-liter turbocharged engine under development. Toyota introduced it at its Multi-Pathway Workshop in May 2024, presenting it as part of work on smaller engines capable of delivering higher output. Toyota’s Toyota Times article discusses the engine and the GR Yaris M Concept development program; Toyota’s Integrated Report 2025 places the 2.0-liter turbo in the company’s broader powertrain strategy.
The name should not be mistaken for a complete specification. Toyota’s reviewed official disclosures do not give the G20E’s final power, torque, detailed dimensions, bore and stroke, compression ratio, or emissions certification.
How does it compare with Toyota’s 2.4-liter turbo?
Toyota’s stated goal is to reduce the engine’s package size while increasing output. In its 2025 Integrated Report, Toyota says the developing 2.0-liter turbo is expected to have 10% less volume and 10% less overall height than its existing 2.4-liter turbo. These are Toyota’s development comparisons—not independently measured production specifications.

- 1000+ PART ASSEMBLY PROJECT: Build the engine from more than 1,000 components, including screws and nuts. Tools and an English instruction manual are included. The manufacturer estimates approximately 10 hours of assembly time. The multi-stage process is intended for experienced model builders familiar with small components and detailed mechanical assembly.
- IMPRESSIVE ENGINEERING DISPLAY: Measuring approximately 14.96 × 6.50 × 9.25 inches and weighing about 11.68 pounds when completed, the DM119 becomes a commanding mechanical centerpiece for a home, office, studio, workshop, or aviation-themed collection.
| Comparison | Toyota’s stated G20E target |
|---|---|
| Engine volume | 10% lower than Toyota’s existing 2.4-liter turbo, according to Toyota’s Integrated Report 2025 |
| Overall height | 10% lower than Toyota’s existing 2.4-liter turbo, according to Toyota’s Integrated Report 2025 |
| Output | Described qualitatively as substantially increased; no final G20E power or torque figure is stated in the reviewed official sources |
Toyota Times describes the engineering challenge as making a high-power engine as compact as possible, while balancing component size and reliability. That explains the packaging emphasis, but it is not evidence of a completed durability validation or a measured reliability result.
What vehicles could use the G20E?
Toyota has described a broad potential application range, including trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles as well as sports cars. Its Integrated Report 2025 also presents compact, powerful engines as suitable for vehicles with a wide range of power demands, including when combined with electric power units. These statements describe intended flexibility and strategy; they do not confirm that a particular production model will receive the G20E.

What is the GR Yaris M Concept connection?
Toyota Motor Europe identified the G20E in the GR Yaris M Concept, a mid-engined development prototype participating in Super Taikyu as part of the engine and vehicle development effort. The prototype is evidence that Toyota is testing the engine in a motorsport-related program, not an announcement that a G20E-powered retail GR Yaris is coming.
Toyota Motor Europe’s 12 March 2025 release says the prototype can run on carbon-neutral fuels or hydrogen. That statement concerns the prototype; it should not be read as a finalized fuel specification for a production G20E.

How much horsepower does the G20E make?
Toyota has not supplied a final G20E horsepower or torque number in the official sources cited here. The company says output is substantially increased compared with its existing 2.4-liter turbo, but without an absolute figure or test conditions, that description cannot be converted into a reliable horsepower estimate. Numbers attributed to the G20E in unsourced summaries should not be treated as confirmed specifications.
Is the G20E going into production?
The official material covered here does not confirm a production vehicle, customer availability, or launch date for the G20E. Toyota’s prototype program and its stated interest in applications ranging from heavy-duty vehicles to sports cars show development intent, but neither establishes a production commitment.

Is the G20E the same as Toyota’s Dynamic Force 2.0?
No. Toyota’s older 2.0-liter Dynamic Force engine is a different engine. Toyota’s 2018 specification lists 1,986 cc displacement, an 80.5 × 97.6 mm bore and stroke, and 126 kW maximum power for its conventional version. Those specifications belong to the Dynamic Force engine, not the developing G20E, and should not be used to fill gaps in the G20E’s specifications.
