Toyota has described a compact, two-seat electric vehicle for urban use, and a later UK-funded feasibility study is examining a vehicle like it. Neither announcement confirms production, a price or a launch date.
What Toyota has proposed
Toyota Motor Europe unveiled the FT-Me on 12 March 2025 as a vision for all-electric micromobility. The concept is less than 2.5 metres long and seats two. Toyota says its footprint would use half a standard parking space, or one third where perpendicular parking is available. These are descriptions of the concept, not measurements from a homologated retail vehicle. Toyota Motor Europe’s announcement presents it as an urban vehicle with customisable options, smartphone integration and hand-operated steering.
Hand-operated driving and intended accessibility
Toyota says hand commands are intended to let wheelchair users drive without aftermarket modification. The company also says the vehicle could suit entry-level licence holders, including people as young as 14 in some markets. These are design intentions, not a confirmed accessibility assessment or a universal licence entitlement: local rules and any eventual production vehicle’s approval would determine who can drive it.
Solar roof and performance claims
Toyota estimates that the solar roof could add 20–30 km of range per day in urban settings; Toyota UK gives the corresponding estimate as 12–18 miles a day. These are Toyota’s concept estimates, not independently verified real-world results. The materials do not specify a test protocol, and actual solar contribution would depend on conditions such as sunlight and vehicle use.

Toyota also says the concept would use one third as much energy per kilometre as a high-capacity battery EV and aims for a 90% lower carbon footprint than today’s city vehicles. The announcement does not name a comparison model or test procedure for the energy claim. The carbon figure is a design aim, not an established lifecycle result; the materials do not state its assessment boundaries or provide independent validation. Toyota’s concept announcement is the source for these figures.
What the feasibility study means
A later Toyota UK update says a Toyota-led consortium secured UK government DRIVE35 funding to study the feasibility of a vehicle like FT-Me conforming to the EU L6e light-quadricycle classification. The named participants are last-mile delivery company ELM Mobility, solar-materials specialist Savcor and University of Derby researchers.

- A plastic model that needs to be assembled.
- 1/32 scale color-coded plastic assembly kit
- Painting not required
- Seals included
The study is examining an integrated Savcor photovoltaic roof panel, digital connectivity, circularity through recycled and sustainable materials, and possible component sharing with ELM’s lightweight last-mile delivery vehicle. Toyota says work is taking place at its Burnaston production facility, with outcomes tested at the University of Derby. A feasibility study is a development step; the update does not report a result, production approval or launch schedule.
Availability, price and specifications
Toyota Germany’s 12 March 2025 media notice explicitly says the FT-Me is not homologated and is not offered for sale. It says consumption and emissions values would be published before ordering. The reviewed Toyota materials do not provide a price, order date, confirmed production decision or sales market. They also do not establish final range, battery capacity, charging time or motor output. Toyota Germany’s notice describes the vehicle as a concept rather than a purchasable model.

- International products have separate terms, are sold from abroad and may differ from local products, including fit, age ratings, and language of product, labeling or instructions.
In a comment on Toyota UK’s article, a reader asked about launch timing and price in India. Toyota UK replied on 26 March 2025 that it had no further news to share about the concept at that stage. That exchange does not indicate an India launch or pricing.

- Size and seating: Toyota describes a two-seat concept under 2.5 metres long; final retail dimensions are not established.
- Solar range: the daily 20–30 km figure is Toyota’s estimate for urban settings, not a guaranteed addition.
- Efficiency and carbon: the one-third energy comparison and 90% carbon-footprint reduction are Toyota claims and aims without the test and lifecycle details needed for like-for-like comparison.
- Licensing and accessibility: proposed capabilities do not establish local legal eligibility or final vehicle approval.
- Development: funded feasibility work does not confirm that Toyota will manufacture or sell the vehicle.
Until Toyota publishes approved specifications and market details, the FT-Me is best understood as a promising urban-mobility concept with a feasibility study underway—not a confirmed upcoming EV purchase.
