The available 2026 roundup names the Polaris Ranger XD 1500 NorthStar Edition and Can-Am Defender Limited HD11, but its accessible text does not reveal all five picks or a comparable rating system. That means a reliable “top five” ranking cannot be reproduced from the published evidence available here. What can be established is how to assess a snow-plowing UTV, what the roundup reports about the Polaris, and how to verify a plow system before buying.
What the 2026 roundup does—and does not—establish
UTV Driver’s 2026 roundup, updated February 5, 2026, is titled “The Five Best 2026 Side-by-Sides for Snowplowing.” Its accessible text identifies the 2026 Polaris Ranger XD 1500 NorthStar Edition and the 2026 Can-Am Defender Limited HD11, but does not expose the full five-vehicle list. It also provides no common scoring rubric or standardized comparison test. The roundup therefore supports neither a complete top-five list nor a meaningful set of comparative ratings.
The excerpt calls the Ranger XD 1500 NorthStar Edition its “favorite heavyweight all-rounder.” It reports a 999 cc inline three-cylinder engine, 110 hp, 105 lb-ft of torque, 15 inches of ground clearance, a 1,000-pound bed capacity, and a 3,500-pound towing capacity, along with a climate-controlled cab and electric dump bed. These are figures reported in the roundup excerpt; verify them against the manufacturer’s specification for the exact model year and trim before relying on them.
The Can-Am Defender Limited HD11 is named, but the accessible text does not provide enough specifications to compare it fairly with the Ranger or other candidates. No missing selections, prices, star scores, or rankings should be inferred.

How to choose a UTV for snow plowing
Match the machine to the work rather than choosing by horsepower alone. A UTV is smaller and more maneuverable than a heavy pickup, which can be useful on driveways and tighter spaces. The roundup cautions that it should not be treated as equivalent to a heavy pickup in deep drifts or large windrows; keeping up with snowfall is preferable to letting accumulations build.
- Power and low-speed control: Consider the work surface, typical snow depth, and whether the vehicle can move steadily while pushing. A published horsepower figure alone does not establish plowing performance.
- Traction and clearance: Assess the route, surface, and likely snow conditions. A clearance figure is useful only when tied to the exact trim and does not guarantee traction.
- Cab comfort: For frequent winter use, check the precise cab configuration and whether it includes heat and defrost. Do not assume every trim or accessory package provides a climate-controlled cab.
- Utility beyond plowing: Bed payload and towing capacity matter if the UTV will also haul supplies or equipment. Confirm the manufacturer’s ratings for the specific machine.
- Attachment fit and controls: Confirm that a compatible vehicle-specific mount, push frame, and blade are available, and determine how the blade lifts and angles.
Confirm the complete plow system fits your exact UTV
A plow is a system, not just a blade. Depending on the product, it can include a vehicle-specific mount plate, push frame or tubes, blade, winch, and wear or marker accessories. Before ordering, match the make, model, model year, and trim to the installation instructions and fitment information.
Rank #2
- Universal Compatibility , Designed with a universal mount plate and push frame to fit most ATV and UTV models for snow removal.
- 60-Inch Steel Blade – Wide, heavy-duty blade built from durable steel to clear driveways, paths, and open areas efficiently.
- 5-Position Angle Adjustment – Blade can be set straight or angled left or right to adapt to different plowing needs.
- Adjustable Ground Clearance – Blade height can be adjusted 1–3 cm above the ground to protect pavement, gravel, or uneven surfaces.
- Durable Construction – Reinforced steel with a powder-coated finish provides strength and resistance to rust and weather.
- Identify the exact vehicle. Record its model year, model family, and trim; similar names do not guarantee identical fitment.
- Check the manufacturer’s fitment and instructions. Polaris’s Ranger plow support page advises buyers to check instructions and fitment for their specific Ranger.
- Verify every component. Confirm the mount, push frame, and blade work together for that vehicle, and check whether the system needs a separately purchased winch or lift.
- Check accessory conflicts. A blade that fits physically may still conflict with another accessory. Kawasaki’s MULE SX listing, for example, says its plow is not compatible with an installed winch.
- Review wear and impact parts. Polaris notes that certain angle pins are designed to shear under specified impacts to reduce force on other system components. After an impact, inspect the full system rather than assuming only the pin needs attention.
Examples of plow equipment and fitment details
UTV Source’s 2026 guide describes vehicle-specific mounts paired with compatible push frames and blades, and notes that a winch may also be required. It lists a 72-inch Kolpin poly blade, a Moose V-plow recommended for heavier wet snow on machines of 700 cc or more, and a steel Denali straight blade. These are retailer/editorial suggestions, not independently verified comparative performance results. The guide gives model-family examples for Can-Am Defender, Polaris Ranger, Kawasaki Mule PRO, and Yamaha Wolverine RMAX; confirm exact model-year fitment before choosing a component.
Kawasaki’s MULE SX 60-inch plow listing describes a blade with cab-operated electric lift and five blade positions. It also warns that the accessory is incompatible with an installed winch. The page displays an MSRP of $3,864.95; price and availability can change, so check the current listing before purchase.

- Wide Applications: Suitable for various UTV models, provides a wide range of applications. Quickly clear road snow, reduce slippery road surfaces caused by snow
- Durable Material: Made of high-grade steel, powder coated surface finish, stable and reliable construction, can withstand high-intensity snow shoveling operations, hard to deform, crack or rust, providing a long-term performance
- Good Performance: The blade width can be adjusted to either 60 or 72 inches, and the blade angle can be set in 5 positions. This lets you handle different snow thicknesses, and road conditions, making snow removal faster and easier. The shovel also has springs for impacts absorbing to soften hits against obstacles, reducing damage and wear to the blade
- Installation Method: Install with screws. You can try to install it yourself or seek professional help
- Package List: You will receive 1 x snow plow blade, with assembly instructions and mounting hardware
Should a UTV replace a pickup and plow?
A UTV can suit a property where maneuverability and access matter and snow can be cleared regularly. It is a less suitable substitute when the job routinely involves deep drifts or large windrows that call for the capacity of a heavy pickup. Compare the actual route and snowfall pattern with the vehicle’s capabilities, and do not assume a UTV’s plow rating or suitability from its engine size alone.
