The list ranges from a bicycle with a two-chain drivetrain to an electronic cleat-adjustment patent. Its original framing is explicit: “This is not meant to be a list of the best cycling products of 2024.”

What made these cycling innovations different?
The ten entries address distinct jobs: drivetrain reliability, shoe-and-pedal compatibility, suspension response, tire inflation, lighting, pressure monitoring, cleat adjustment, frame manufacturing, pedal structure, and cargo carrying. They are not ranked against one another, and the roundup is not a comparative test. Some entries are product descriptions or manufacturer claims; the Shimano item is patent news, which does not mean a retail product launched.
Ten unusual cycling innovations from 2024
1. World Bicycle Relief Buffalo S2: drivetrain redundancy
The redesigned Buffalo S2 uses a two-chain drivetrain. The concept is intended to provide rugged use and drivetrain redundancy, as described by the roundup; that stated goal is not proof of superior durability in comparison with other bicycles.

Fox Live Valve Neo is an electronic, wireless mountain-bike rear suspension system. The roundup repeats the description “world’s fastest wireless cycling suspension system” as a product claim; it does not establish that through an independent comparison.

4. Schwalbe Clik Valve: a different approach to tire inflation
Schwalbe’s Clik Valve is designed to simplify inflating bicycle tires. The roundup reports Schwalbe’s claim of up to 50% more airflow. That figure is an attributed product claim, not an independently verified result: the cited page gives no test method or independent validation.
5. Light Rail: a rectangular bicycle headlight
Light Rail uses a rectangular form intended to spread light broadly and help riders see and be seen. The roundup does not provide measured beam performance or establish regulatory compliance, so the design aim should not be mistaken for either.

6. Outrider: real-time pressure readings inside a tubeless tire
Outrider is an in-tire sensor for tubeless tires that provides real-time pressure readings. The roundup notes that small pressure differences can matter to performance, but supplies no quantified study or test protocol showing the size of any effect.
7. Shimano’s electronic cleat-adjustment patent
The roundup reports that Shimano was granted a US patent for a wireless electronic system that adjusts a rider’s shoe position relative to the pedals while riding. This is an invention described in a patent report, not evidence that Shimano launched a product for consumers.

9. Outlier MTB pedals: an open-center platform
Outlier’s mountain-bike platform pedals have an open-center design intended to reduce material and provide grip. The roundup describes the structure but does not quantify weight savings or compare grip with competing pedals.
