Transformers: Dark of the Moon tops a 2023 ranking with a reported 532 cars destroyed. The next entries are Fast & Furious 6 at 350 and The Matrix Reloaded at 300, according to 24/7 Wall St.’s review of Confused.com’s Movie Car Report. These are published production counts, not a definitive, independently audited tally of every vehicle used or damaged.
The 10 movies with the highest reported car-destruction counts
The table reproduces the top 10 in 24/7 Wall St.’s April 2023 ranking. The publication says it reviewed Confused.com’s Movie Car Report; it does not set out a shared counting protocol for every film. Top Gear lists the same order and counts.

Top Gear attributes the 532 figure for Transformers: Dark of the Moon to Guinness World Records, but the Guinness record page is not available among the cited sources. Treat the verification as Top Gear’s attribution rather than as a directly confirmed Guinness record.
Why published car counts can differ
These rankings are best read as reported figures, not as a universal census. A separate Start Rescue list from October 2020 gives Fast & Furious 5 a count of 250, while the 2023 24/7 Wall St. ranking reports 260 for Fast Five. Start Rescue also includes Bullitt at more than 80 cars and the original Gone in 60 Seconds (1974) at 93. The different lists and the ten-car discrepancy show that scope and counting methods may vary.

There is also a difference between a car being visible in a crash, a vehicle being damaged, and a unique vehicle being written off during production. One model may appear as several cars on screen because productions use stunt doubles rather than risk the hero vehicle. 24/7 Wall St. reports that the Toyota Supra in The Fast and the Furious had eight versions: two hero cars and six stand-ins. That example illustrates why a screen crash count and a count of unique vehicles destroyed need not mean the same thing.

In a March 2026 Men’s Journal article about an A1 Auto Transport study, the company’s marketing director, Joe Webster, described some vehicles used in film stunts as coming from salvage auctions after being written off by insurers. He also said they may be stripped down and rebuilt with roll cages, fire-suppression systems, and other safety modifications. This is Webster’s description, not an established rule for every production.

For Furious 7, Top Gear attributes this remark to car coordinator Dennis McCarthy: “Everyone was shocked when they found out we threw real cars out of the plane,” It is a reminder that a reported destruction figure can include costly, deliberate stunts, but it does not establish how every car in the ranking was sourced or used.
