Tony Stark’s clearest on-screen car association is the Audi R8: Audi’s 2007 film campaign described it as the car he relies on when he is not wearing the Iron Man suit. But the films and their production notes do not establish a list of 20 cars he owns, much less a credible ranking by price. The evidence supports a more useful distinction between cars tied to Tony, cars that appear in the films, and vehicles placed in his workshop.
What cars does Tony Stark own?
The Audi R8 is the car most directly identified with Tony Stark. Audi’s December 2007 announcement for the first Iron Man film said Stark relied on the R8 when out of his suit: Audi’s film announcement. That is the strongest source-backed answer to “What car does Iron Man drive?”
Other vehicles appear in the films or in Tony’s workshop, but appearance is not proof of personal ownership. Audi’s film materials identify several models used across the series, while production notes describe vehicles set in the first film’s garage. The sources do not establish a complete, scene-by-scene ownership inventory.
What is Tony Stark’s Audi?
Audi R8
The R8 is the lead car in Stark’s film identity. Audi’s later overview describes first-generation R8s across the trilogy: Audi’s R8 overview. The available evidence supports identifying the model, but not assigning a specific model year or trim to every scene.

Audi R8 e-tron prototype
Iron Man 3 featured an electric R8 e-tron prototype, according to Audi’s March 2013 release: Audi’s Iron Man 3 announcement. It should be described as a prototype used in the film, not as an ordinary production car that Stark is confirmed to have bought.
Audi R8 Spyder
Audi lists the R8 Spyder among the models used in the first two films in the same 2013 release. That establishes a film appearance, but the source does not by itself establish who drove it in a particular scene or that it belonged to Tony.

Which other Audi cars appear in the Iron Man films?
Audi’s releases identify these additional models in connection with the films. The distinction between an appearance and Tony’s ownership matters: a vehicle in the movie is not automatically one of his cars.
| Model | What is established | Ownership attribution |
|---|---|---|
| Audi A8 | Audi lists an A8 among vehicles used in the earlier films; production notes identify a 2008 A8 in the first film’s workshop. | Tony’s personal ownership is not established by these references. |
| Audi S5 | Audi’s 2007 announcement says Pepper drives the S5. | Attributed to Pepper, not Tony. |
| Audi Q7 | Audi says the Q7 also appears, and lists it among models associated with the earlier films. | Appearance is established; Tony’s ownership is not. |
| Audi S7 Sportback | Audi identifies the S7 Sportback as Pepper Potts’s vehicle in Iron Man 3. | Attributed to Pepper, not Tony. |
What cars are in Tony Stark’s garage?
The first film’s production notes identify several vehicles in the workshop. These are useful for understanding the garage’s look, but a production vehicle in a set is not necessarily part of Tony’s fictional collection.

- Has steerable wheels. Brand new box. Rubber tires. Made of diecast with some plastic parts. Detailed interior, exterior, engine compartment. Dimensions approximately L-8,W-3,H-2.5 inches.
- 1967 Shelby Cobra: Listed among the workshop vehicles. The notes do not provide a purchase price or establish a comparative value.
- Tesla electric car: Listed in the workshop, but the notes do not name a model.
- “Saline” supercar: The production notes use this spelling. Without a reliable identification from the film itself, it is better not to silently correct the name or assert a specific make and model.
- 1932 Ford Flathead Roadster: The notes say it belonged to director Jon Favreau and served as the garage centerpiece. It is not evidence of Tony’s personal ownership.
- 2008 Audi A8: Identified in the workshop by the production notes; the notes do not establish that it was Tony’s personally owned car.
Favreau described the set’s purpose in the production notes: “Tony Stark is a bit of a gear head, and the workshop is the space that tells you he’s a guy who likes working with his hands.” The garage helps characterize him as a hands-on builder; it should not be read as a verified ownership ledger.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can Tony Stark’s 20 most expensive cars be ranked?
No reliable ranking can be made from the documented vehicles. The available sources do not establish 20 cars owned by Tony, nor do they provide comparable prices for the cars that are identified. Mixing a prototype, a director-owned roadster, vehicles driven by Pepper, and workshop set dressing into a single ranked list would confuse both ownership and value.

A defensible comparison would need to identify each car in a specific film or scene, establish whether Tony drove or owned it, and specify what “expensive” means: original MSRP, an auction result, a current asking price, or an estimate. No such price basis is supplied for this list of cars, so a numbered “most expensive” order would be guesswork.
