Here’s what has been reported, and how to separate those claims from the famous cars Cruise drove on screen.
Which cars have been reported as part of Tom Cruise’s collection?
A July 14, 2019 article by GQ España attributed these vehicles to Cruise. The article is a secondary report; it does not provide a verification method or establish that he still owns any of them.
| Vehicle | What the report says |
|---|---|
| Bugatti Veyron | Named by GQ España in its 2019 list of cars attributed to Cruise. |
| 1949 Buick Roadmaster | Named by GQ España in its 2019 list. |
| Chevrolet Corvette C1 | Named by GQ España in its 2019 list. |
| Ford Mustang Saleen S281 | Named by GQ España in its 2019 list. |
| Porsche 928 | Named by GQ España in its 2019 list; the report does not identify a particular car by production history or confirm present ownership. |
| BMW 7 Series | Named by GQ España in its 2019 list. |
| Cadillac Escalade | Named by GQ España in its 2019 list. |
| Mercedes CLK W209 | Named by GQ España in its 2019 list. |
The list is best read as a snapshot of claims published in 2019, not an authenticated garage inventory. GQ España also mentions an older Dodge Colt as Cruise’s first car in its introduction, but the available article text does not document that claim or its source, so it cannot be independently confirmed here.
Why the Porsche 928 needs a closer look
The 928 is a useful example of how celebrity-car stories can blur personal ownership with movie history. Cruise starred in Risky Business, but the production’s Porsche 928s are not thereby evidence of cars he personally owned.

In its specialist account “Quest for RB 928,” Excellence describes four different 928s used during filming and two additional cars involved in post-production. The cars varied in year, transmission, appearance, and role.
| Car or group | Specification or role reported by Excellence |
|---|---|
| Primary filming car | 1981 928 in Platinum Metallic with an automatic transmission. |
| “Fill car” | 1979 928 with a five-speed manual, used for driving scenes and portions of the chase. |
| Another 1979 car | A separate five-speed used for another scene. |
| Fourth filming car | Used for the lake dump sequence; the cited account does not give further specification in the available summary. |
| Two post-production cars | Additional vehicles involved after filming; specific specifications and roles are not stated in the cited account summary. |
Writer-director Paul Brickman explained the choice of car for the father character this way: “He saw the 928, on the other hand, as exactly the type of car a successful Windy City businessman would drive to work every day.” That is a comment about the character and the production’s choice, not Cruise’s personal garage.

What Mission: Impossible cars tell us—and what they don’t
BMW Group’s August 17, 2018 press release about Mission: Impossible – Fallout documents vehicles featured in the film: a BMW 7 Series, BMW M5, BMW R nineT Scrambler, and BMW M5 E28. The release also notes that original movie vehicles were displayed at BMW Welt in a special exhibition at that time.
Those are franchise film vehicles, not proof of personal ownership by Cruise. The same distinction applies to other cars seen in his films: screen time alone cannot establish who owns a vehicle, whether it was retained after production, or whether it remains in a collection.

Is Tom Cruise’s car collection worth a million dollars?
The sources cited here do not establish a reliable total value or a comprehensive current vehicle count. The “million-dollar” phrasing in the original headline should therefore not be treated as a verified valuation. An exact figure would need an attributable source, a date, and a clear valuation method; none is established by these reports.

How to read celebrity car lists
- Check the date: A model attributed to a celebrity in a 2019 article is not automatically part of that person’s collection today.
- Separate ownership from appearance: A car in a film may belong to a studio, a production, a rental provider, or another owner.
- Look for vehicle-level evidence: Specific model year or production details can make a film-car history informative without proving celebrity ownership.
- Be cautious with total values: A list of cars is not a valuation. Without a dated, attributable method, a collection-wide dollar figure remains unverified.
