Tiny Stubby Slide-In Camper: What Pickup and Trailer Buyers Need to Know

The Tiny Camper Company Stubby is a compact, hard-sided camper pod designed to ride in a pickup bed, utility trailer or other suitable platform. It is not a road trailer: it has no wheels or suspension of its own. The maker’s current listing gives a $3,400 base price and dimensions of 48 inches wide by 6 feet 5 inches long, but it contradicts itself on weight, listing both 280 and 300 pounds. Fit, carrying capacity and securement therefore need to be checked for the specific vehicle or trailer before ordering.

What the Tiny Stubby is—and what it is not

The Stubby is a small, hard-sided slide-in camper pod, not a complete towable camper. New Atlas described the launch-era model as wheel- and suspension-free, intended to be carried in a pickup bed or on a trailer or platform. The current manufacturer listing names pickup trucks, lawn trailers, gooseneck trailers and small platforms as possible uses, but does not establish fitment for any particular vehicle or trailer.

Its rounded roofline is closer to a squaredrop shape than a fully rounded teardrop, according to New Atlas. Think of it as a compact enclosed sleeping space that depends on a separate vehicle or platform for transport—not as a trailer that can be hitched up and towed on its own.

Current listed dimensions, weight and price

Tiny Camper Company’s product page, accessed October 4, 2026, lists the Stubby at 48 inches wide and 6 feet 5 inches long, with a $3,400 base camper price. That same page gives two different weights: its introductory text says 300 pounds, while its specification list says 280 pounds. The company should confirm the current shipping or ready-to-load weight before a buyer calculates payload or lifting needs.

How to check whether it will fit and ride safely

Do not assume that a pickup bed or utility trailer is compatible based only on the maker’s examples. Compare the actual usable platform and its capacity with the pod and the complete load, then get the manufacturer’s guidance on loading and tie-downs.

  1. Measure the platform. Check usable bed or deck length and width, not just advertised exterior dimensions. Confirm that the pod’s 48-inch width and 6-foot-5-inch length fit with room for the aluminum slides to sit properly, and verify clearance around wheel wells, tailgates, doors and other obstructions.
  2. Check carrying capacity. Use the pickup or trailer documentation to confirm payload or load capacity. Include the pod at its verified current weight, occupants, cargo and added equipment in the calculation. The available sources do not identify specific compatible makes or models or establish a required payload figure.
  3. Ask about loading and handling. The maker says to bring a friend for loading; New Atlas also described corner handles. Ask Tiny Camper Company how many people it recommends, what lifting method to use and whether any loading equipment is needed for your platform.
  4. Confirm securement details. The pod has built-in tie-down points, but the listing does not state whether straps are included or specify strap type, rating or attachment method. Ask the maker what hardware is required, then confirm suitable anchor points and load limits with the vehicle or trailer documentation.
  5. Measure the sleeping area. The published outside dimensions do not establish the usable interior floor dimensions. Measure that space before buying a mattress rather than inferring a mattress size from the exterior.

Questions to settle with the seller before ordering

  • What is the current as-shipped and ready-to-load weight, and why does the page show both 280 and 300 pounds?
  • What minimum platform dimensions and load capacity does the company recommend, and how should the slides sit on the platform?
  • What tie-down hardware and attachment arrangement does the company require or recommend?
  • What air-conditioning model is currently offered, what electrical requirements does it have, and what does it cost?
  • What are the current order, delivery or pickup, and warranty terms?
