There Will Be Only 8 “American-Made” Sedans Left in 2026—But the Count Needs a Caveat

Eight sedan nameplates are commonly counted as American-made or North American-made in 2026. Here is where each is assembled, how long it may last, and why the definition matters.

The short answer: eight sedan nameplates are commonly counted in the 2026 American-made or North American-made snapshot: the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Cadillac CT4, Cadillac CT5, Tesla Model 3, Dodge Charger, Tesla Model S, and Lucid Air.

That headline is not a strict count of eight sedans assembled in the United States and continuously available throughout the 2026 model year. The Charger is built in Canada, Tesla is sunsetting the Model S during 2026, and the current Cadillac CT4 and CT5 are scheduled to end after the 2026 model year. The list is best understood as a time-sensitive snapshot, not a permanent census.

What “American-made” means in this list

For clarity, this article uses final assembly in the United States as the primary definition of American-made. That is different from the nationality of the automaker, the percentage of U.S. parts, or a broader domestic-content score.

By that definition, a Toyota assembled in Kentucky and a Honda assembled in Ohio can qualify even though Toyota and Honda are Japanese automakers. Conversely, an American-brand vehicle is not automatically U.S.-assembled: the new four-door Dodge Charger is assembled in Windsor, Ontario.

Cars.com’s 2026 American-Made Index lists assembly locations but also uses several additional factors in its broader ranking. NHTSA’s American Automobile Labeling Act data is another source for vehicle assembly and content disclosures. Neither approach should be casually reduced to “the company is American” or “most of the car is American.”

The eight-nameplate 2026 snapshot

Nameplate Assembly or production location 2026 status How it should be described
Toyota Camry Georgetown, Kentucky Current 2026 model Strong U.S.-assembled fit; Japanese brand
Honda Accord Marysville, Ohio, according to the 2026 American-Made Index Current 2026 model Strong U.S.-assembled fit; plant allocation can change
Cadillac CT4 Lansing, Michigan Current generation ends after the 2026 model year U.S.-assembled luxury sedan in its final model-year run
Cadillac CT5 Lansing, Michigan Current generation ends after the 2026 model year U.S.-assembled luxury sedan in its final model-year run
Tesla Model 3 Fremont, California Current 2026 model U.S.-assembled electric sedan
Dodge Charger Windsor, Ontario, Canada Current 2026 four-door model American brand and North American-built, but not U.S.-assembled
Tesla Model S Fremont, California, historically and during the transition Production sunset announced during 2026 U.S.-assembled transition case; do not assume a full-year production run
Lucid Air Casa Grande, Arizona Current 2026 model U.S.-assembled electric luxury sedan

So, under a strict U.S.-final-assembly test, the list contains six straightforward current examples, plus the transitioning Model S. The Charger belongs only when the headline broadens to American-brand or North American-made sedans.

1. Toyota Camry: the mainstream survivor

The 2026 Toyota Camry is a five-seat midsize sedan assembled at Toyota’s Georgetown, Kentucky, plant. It is one of the clearest fits for a consumer searching for a U.S.-assembled family sedan.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The current Camry generation is hybrid-only, which makes it especially representative of the sedan market that remains: a practical, efficient family car rather than a traditional V6-powered cruiser. Its U.S. assembly does not mean every component is domestic. Toyota’s supply chain is global, and final-assembly location should not be confused with total U.S. content.

For buyers who want the most conventional combination of space, efficiency, and long-term availability from this list, the Camry is the least complicated choice. It is also a reminder that sedans have not vanished because every sedan became undesirable; the strongest survivors are the ones that still make a clear economic and practical case.

2. Honda Accord: another Ohio-built family sedan

The 2026 Honda Accord remains a U.S.-assembled midsize sedan. Cars.com lists the 2026 Accord as assembled in Marysville, Ohio, and Honda’s Marysville Auto Plant identifies the Accord and Accord Hybrid among its products. Honda has produced Accords in Ohio since 1982.

There have been conflicting secondary reports about future production planning, retooling, and possible split allocation involving Honda facilities. The responsible wording for the 2026 model is therefore that the Accord has U.S. assembly, while the exact plant allocation remains subject to manufacturing changes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Like the Camry, the Accord survives by serving a large, identifiable audience: people who want a reasonably efficient, comfortable vehicle with a conventional trunk and a lower seating position than an SUV. It is not “American” because Honda is an American automaker; it qualifies because the vehicle is assembled in the United States.

3. Cadillac CT4: a small luxury sedan on borrowed time

The Cadillac CT4 is assembled at GM’s Lansing Grand River facility in Michigan. It represents one of the few remaining American luxury sedans in the compact-to-midsize class and is included in NHTSA’s 2026 AALA data with U.S. assembly.

The important qualification is timing. Cadillac has confirmed that the current CT4 will be discontinued after the 2026 model year. That makes the CT4 a final-run product, not a dependable long-term fixture of Cadillac’s lineup.

Anyone shopping for one should distinguish between the current CT4 and any future Cadillac sedan or replacement that might use a related name. A future model, if announced or produced, could have a different platform, powertrain, assembly site, or availability. The 2026 CT4 should be evaluated as the last run of the current generation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Cadillac CT5: the last big American performance sedan

The larger Cadillac CT5 is also assembled in Lansing, Michigan. Its most notable version is the CT5-V Blackwing, which keeps a high-performance, internal-combustion luxury sedan in the conversation at a time when that category has nearly disappeared.

But the same sunset warning applies. Cadillac has confirmed that the current CT5 will be discontinued after the 2026 model year, even though a successor or a returning CT5 nameplate has been discussed. A discussion about a future replacement is not evidence that the current CT5 will continue unchanged.

The CT5 is therefore significant for two reasons: it is U.S.-assembled, and it may be one of the final opportunities to buy a large American luxury sedan with the current generation’s engineering and performance formula. Availability, allocation, and future support should be checked carefully rather than assumed from the nameplate alone.

5. Tesla Model 3: the clearest surviving U.S.-assembled EV sedan

The 2026 Tesla Model 3 is assembled at Tesla’s Fremont, California, plant. Among the eight names, it is the clearest example of a U.S.-assembled electric sedan that is expected to remain an active product rather than a final-run curiosity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Its inclusion still does not mean the Model 3 is wholly domestic. Tesla’s supply chain is international, and the American-Made Index’s broader scoring system considers more than the physical location where the car is put together. “Assembled in Fremont” is the precise claim; “made entirely in America” is not.

The Model 3 also illustrates how the remaining sedan market has split. The Camry and Accord appeal through efficiency and practicality, while the Model 3 makes the case for a sedan through electric power, software, and aerodynamic efficiency. Its survival is tied less to traditional sedan loyalty than to the fact that an efficient, low-slung EV can still be a rational alternative to a heavier crossover.

6. Dodge Charger: the American-brand exception

The new four-door Dodge Charger is the list’s biggest geographic caveat. It is an American-brand sedan, but the 2026 model is assembled in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. That makes it North American-built, not U.S.-assembled.

It belongs in a broad “American-made sedan” headline only if that phrase is being used loosely to include American brands and North American production. It should not appear in an unqualified list of sedans built in the United States.

The 2026 Charger also represents a different kind of survivor. Sixpack versions use Stellantis’ Hurricane inline-six, and trim and production availability should be treated as 2026 model-year information rather than a permanent promise about every future Charger. Buyers should verify the exact body style, engine, trim, and build location on the vehicle’s documentation.

7. Tesla Model S: a U.S.-assembled nameplate in transition

The Tesla Model S historically qualifies as a U.S.-assembled sedan because it was built at Fremont, California. However, Tesla announced in January 2026 that it was sunsetting the Model S and Model X lines while continuing Model 3 and Model Y production.

That announcement changes how the Model S should be counted. It is relevant to a 2026 snapshot because the nameplate existed at the beginning of the transition, but it should not be presented as a sedan with a secure, full-year production run. Depending on timing and location, a shopper may be looking at remaining inventory rather than an ongoing factory order.

For a new-car buyer, confirm whether a vehicle is newly produced, dealer inventory, or remaining stock. For a used-car buyer, condition, battery-related documentation, service history, and warranty status matter more than the fact that the nameplate once represented Tesla’s flagship sedan.

8. Lucid Air: low-volume American assembly at Casa Grande

The Lucid Air is a 2026 electric luxury sedan assembled at Lucid’s Advanced Manufacturing Plant-1 in Casa Grande, Arizona. Lucid’s corporate filings identify the Arizona facility as the assembly location for the Air and Gravity, and Lucid’s 2026 product material identifies the Air as a 2026 model.

The Air is a strong U.S.-assembled fit, but it occupies a very different market position from the Camry or Accord. It is a low-volume luxury EV, so its importance to the list is symbolic as well as practical: American sedan production has not been reduced solely to mass-market family cars and old-fashioned gasoline performance models.

Buyers should separate assembly location from ownership and service considerations. A low-volume luxury vehicle can have different availability, support, parts, and resale dynamics from a high-volume sedan, even when both are assembled in the United States.

Why the American sedan list keeps shrinking

The decline is primarily a market and manufacturing decision, not a sudden technical inability to build sedans.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Consumers have shifted toward SUVs, crossovers, and pickups. Those vehicles often command stronger demand and pricing, while offering the higher seating position and cargo flexibility many buyers now prefer.
  • Sedans are expensive to redesign. A new generation must meet changing crash standards, emissions rules, software expectations, and electrification requirements. Automakers are less willing to spend that money on a body style with a shrinking sales base.
  • Factory capacity has an opportunity cost. A plant configured for crossovers, trucks, or profitable electric vehicles may produce a better return than one dedicated to a declining sedan segment.
  • Several major manufacturers already withdrew. Chevrolet ended Malibu production, leaving GM without a mainstream Chevrolet sedan. Ford and Stellantis had already removed most of their traditional sedan nameplates from the U.S. market.

The survivors fall into three broad groups:

  1. High-volume hybrid family sedans: Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.
  2. American luxury-performance sedans: Cadillac CT4 and CT5, both in their final current-generation model-year run.
  3. Electric sedans: Tesla Model 3 and Lucid Air, with Model S included only as a transition case.

The Charger is the geographic exception: an American-brand, North American-built sedan assembled in Canada.

How to use this list if you are shopping

If you want the most practical new sedan

Start with the Camry and Accord. Both offer the strongest combination of mainstream availability and U.S. final assembly in this group. Verify the specific vehicle’s window sticker and VIN rather than assuming every car sold under a model name came from the same plant.

If you want a luxury or performance sedan

Approach the CT4 and CT5 as final-run vehicles. The end of the current generation can make them appealing to enthusiasts, but it also makes exact configuration, parts support, warranty coverage, and future replacement plans worth investigating before purchase. A rumored or discussed successor should not be treated as a continuation of the current car.

If you want an electric sedan

The Model 3 is the clearest active U.S.-assembled choice in the list. The Lucid Air is the more exclusive luxury option. The Model S requires the most caution because production is being sunset during 2026; availability may depend on remaining inventory and timing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If American brand identity matters more than U.S. assembly

The Dodge Charger may fit your brand preference, but its Windsor, Ontario, assembly location means it does not meet the strict U.S.-assembled definition. It is more accurate to call it an American-brand, North American-built sedan.

If you are moving from research to shopping, you can shop participating vehicles on Amazon Autos, but treat that as an inventory route rather than proof that every sedan in this article is available there. Participating dealers, brands, vehicle condition, and geography can change, and discontinued or final-run models may be easier to find through ordinary dealer or used-market searches.

How to verify whether a particular car qualifies

Model-level lists are useful for orientation, but the car in front of you is what matters. Use this checklist:

  1. Confirm the model year. A vehicle sold or registered during calendar year 2026 is not necessarily a 2026 model-year vehicle.
  2. Check the final-assembly information. Review the window sticker, vehicle identification number documentation, and manufacturer information. Do not infer assembly location from the badge on the hood.
  3. Separate assembly from content. If your priority is U.S. parts content or domestic manufacturing, look for the relevant AALA or window-sticker disclosures rather than relying on a broad “American-made” label.
  4. Check whether production is ongoing. This is especially important for the Model S and the current CT4 and CT5. A nameplate can appear in a 2026 snapshot while already being on its way out.
  5. For a used sedan, obtain a vehicle history report and an independent pre-purchase inspection. The Federal Trade Commission recommends these types of checks for used-car shoppers. An inspection can identify mechanical, structural, flood, collision, and wear issues that an assembly-location list cannot.
  6. Use an OBD2 scanner for used-car checks only as a supplement. A basic vehicle diagnostic scanner can reveal some stored trouble codes, but it cannot replace a professional inspection or reliably evaluate every battery, structural, maintenance, or drivability issue.

These steps are particularly important for transition models. A remaining Model S, CT4, or CT5 may be attractive, but its build date, warranty status, service history, and exact equipment can differ substantially from another vehicle carrying the same badge.

Why the number may change again

The count is sensitive to three choices: what qualifies as a sedan, what “American-made” means, and whether a model ending during 2026 counts.

  • Body style: Some buyers and databases treat liftbacks or fastbacks differently from traditional three-box sedans.
  • Geography: U.S. final assembly, North American assembly, American-brand ownership, and a multi-factor domestic-content index produce different lists.
  • Timing: A model available early in a calendar year may be discontinued, reallocated, or reduced to remaining inventory before the year ends.

Those uncertainties do not make the eight-nameplate snapshot fabricated. They explain why the headline needs a definition. The list is a picture of a shrinking market at a particular moment, not a promise that all eight cars will be built in America—or even remain orderable—through December 2026.

Source basis: Assembly and availability details in this article follow the 2026 American-Made Index, Honda’s Marysville plant information, NHTSA’s 2026 AALA data, Cadillac’s current-generation discontinuation confirmation, Tesla/Fremont production-transition reporting, Lucid’s corporate filings and 2026 product material, and reporting on the Windsor-built Charger.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sedans are strictly assembled in the United States in this 2026 list?

Six are straightforward current U.S.-assembled examples: the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Cadillac CT4, Cadillac CT5, Tesla Model 3, and Lucid Air. The Tesla Model S has a U.S. assembly history but is being sunset during 2026. The Dodge Charger is assembled in Canada, so it qualifies only under a broader American-brand or North American-built definition.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the Dodge Charger American-made?

It depends on the definition. The Charger is an American-brand vehicle and is built in North America, but the 2026 four-door model is assembled in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. It is not U.S.-assembled.

Will the Tesla Model S still be produced throughout 2026?

No full-year production run should be assumed. Tesla announced in January 2026 that it was sunsetting the Model S and Model X lines. A buyer may encounter remaining inventory or vehicles produced during the transition rather than an ongoing Model S program.

Which 2026 sedans on the list are being discontinued?

Cadillac has confirmed that the current CT4 and CT5 will end after the 2026 model year. Tesla has announced the Model S sunset during 2026. Any future Cadillac replacement or returning CT5 nameplate should be treated as a separate vehicle until its specifications and production details are confirmed.

The Bottom Line

The honest version of the headline is this: eight sedan nameplates are commonly counted in the 2026 American-made or North American-made snapshot, but only some meet a strict U.S.-assembly definition, and several are already in transition. The Camry, Accord, Model 3, and Lucid Air are the clearest ongoing U.S.-assembled choices; the CT4 and CT5 are final-run Cadillac sedans; the Charger is Canadian-built; and the Model S is being phased out.
