The claim “There Will Be Only 8 American-Made Sedans Left In 2025” is not a universal fact: NHTSA’s MY2025 data lists more than eight sedan nameplates or configurations with U.S. final assembly. The defensible answer depends on whether “American-made” means assembly, U.S./Canadian content, American brand, or broader domestic economic contribution—and on what “available” means.
The headline is directionally right about one thing: the U.S. sedan market has contracted dramatically, and the remaining choices are more difficult to classify than a simple badge-based list suggests. A Cadillac, Chevrolet, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Volvo, Tesla, or Lucid badge does not by itself establish where a specific 2025 vehicle was assembled.

This article uses NHTSA’s model-year assembly and content data as the primary reference, manufacturer information for selected production locations, and Cars.com’s broader economic-contribution methodology as a separate comparison. It also explains why a related secondary article names six vehicles rather than eight.

- There is no authoritative universal count of exactly eight American-made sedans for 2025 because “American-made” can mean U.S. final assembly, U.S./Canadian content, American-brand identity, or broader economic contribution.
- NHTSA’s MY2025 AALA table lists more than eight sedan nameplates or configuration families with U.S. final assembly, including Cadillac, Chevrolet, Acura, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, and Volvo models.
- U.S. final assembly does not mean that every part came from the United States; NHTSA reports U.S./Canadian content separately, and the percentage can change by trim, engine, transmission, or hybrid system.
- The Honda Accord, Acura Integra, and Acura TLX are built at Honda’s Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio, while Toyota’s 2025 Camry is hybrid-only in North America and is listed with U.S. final assembly.
- Tesla Model 3 and Model S, along with the Lucid Air, are important American-manufactured electric sedans, but EV assembly and component sourcing should be evaluated separately from gasoline and hybrid models.
- The secondary article most closely associated with this headline presents six vehicles—not eight—and its editorial selection is not a replacement for primary model-year verification.
What does “American-made” mean for a 2025 sedan?
“American-made” has at least three defensible meanings in this market, and each meaning produces a different list. The clearest narrow manufacturing definition is U.S. final assembly, while domestic content and broader economic contribution measure different parts of a vehicle’s American footprint.

| Meaning | What it measures | What it can tell you | What it cannot prove |
|---|---|---|---|
| U.S. final assembly | Where the vehicle was assembled | Whether the listed vehicle or configuration was assembled at a U.S. plant | That most components, or every component, originated in the United States |
| U.S./Canadian domestic content | The stated share of parts from the United States and Canada | How much regional parts content NHTSA reported for a specific configuration | That the percentage applies to every trim or to the entire vehicle range |
| Broader American economic contribution | Final assembly, U.S./Canadian parts, engine and transmission origin, and the U.S. manufacturing workforce | How Cars.com compares qualifying vehicles using several economic factors | That the ranking is an official government count of U.S.-assembled sedans |
| American brand | Brand identity, ownership, or historical origin | Whether a buyer views the badge as American | Where the individual vehicle was assembled or where its parts came from |
Brand nationality and manufacturing location are not interchangeable. Honda, Toyota, Tesla, and Lucid are not all American-owned brands in the conventional sense, but each has relevant U.S. manufacturing activity. Conversely, an American badge alone does not establish that every version of a model was assembled in the United States.
Which 2025 sedans does NHTSA list with U.S. final assembly?
NHTSA’s MY2025 American Automobile Labeling Act table, published August 27, 2024, lists more than eight sedan nameplates or configuration families with U.S. final assembly. The table below summarizes the sedan-related entries identified in the research; the entries are not a claim that every trim was available at every dealer.
| 2025 sedan or configuration family | Vehicle role and powertrain context | NHTSA-listed U.S./Canadian content | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cadillac CT4 | Traditional American-brand compact luxury sedan | 15% for the listed configurations; U.S. engine and transmission sources | Content and powertrain information applies to the listed configurations, not automatically to every version |
| Cadillac CT5 | Traditional American-brand midsize luxury sedan | 15% for the listed configurations; U.S. engine and transmission sources | The AALA entry is configuration-specific |
| Chevrolet Malibu | American-brand mainstream family sedan | 39% for the listed configuration | Production and model-year availability were subject to transition and discontinuation reporting, so inventory must be checked separately |
| Acura Integra | Compact luxury sedan | 60% for some listed configurations | Trim-level differences matter; Honda identifies Marysville, Ohio, as a production location |
| Acura TLX | Midsize luxury sedan | 60% for several listed configurations | Content can differ by trim or powertrain; Honda identifies Marysville, Ohio, as a production location |
| Honda Accord and Accord Hybrid | Mainstream midsize sedan with gasoline and hybrid configurations | Varies by configuration; 60% for listed Accord configuration(s) | NHTSA reports content and powertrain-source differences among configurations |
| Toyota Camry Hybrid | Mainstream midsize hybrid sedan | 55% for the listed configuration | The ninth-generation 2025 Camry is hybrid-only in North America |
| Lexus ES 250, ES 350, and ES 300h variants | Luxury sedan with gasoline and hybrid variants | Varies by listed ES variant | Selected configurations appear in the table; the percentage should not be generalized to every ES sold globally |
| Nissan Altima four-cylinder | Mainstream midsize gasoline sedan | 50% for the listed four-cylinder configuration | The listed figure applies to the specified configuration rather than every possible Altima version |
| Volvo S60 B5 and S60 T8 | Luxury sedan with gasoline mild-hybrid and plug-in-hybrid configurations | Varies by listed powertrain | NHTSA lists specified B5 and T8 configurations; the figure should not be extended to the entire global S60 range |
The named percentages are U.S./Canadian content, not a percentage of the complete vehicle that is “American.” According to NHTSA’s MY2025 AALA data, the listed Toyota Camry Hybrid configuration has 55% U.S./Canadian content, while listed Acura Integra, Acura TLX, and Honda Accord configurations reach 60%. The same table lists 39% for the Chevrolet Malibu, 50% for the specified four-cylinder Nissan Altima, and 15% for the listed Cadillac CT4 and CT5 configurations.
Where are the Honda sedans assembled?
Honda’s 2025 Digital FactBook identifies the Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio as producing the Acura Integra, Acura TLX, Honda Accord, and Accord Hybrid. Honda says Marysville began building the Accord on November 1, 1982, and continues to produce the Accord and Accord Hybrid there.
Why is the 2025 Camry an important exception to the brand-badge argument?
The 2025 Toyota Camry is hybrid-only in North America, yet NHTSA lists U.S. final assembly for the Camry Hybrid. Toyota also says the model was designed by its U.S. studios. The Camry therefore demonstrates why a Japanese-brand badge does not answer a question about where a particular vehicle was assembled or how much regional content it contains. Toyota’s 2025 Camry announcement provides the manufacturer’s hybrid-only and U.S.-design context.

Are there really only eight American-made sedans left in 2025?
No—not if the definition is U.S. final assembly and the scope is the MY2025 AALA data. NHTSA’s table contains more than eight relevant sedan nameplates or configuration families. The number eight can be produced only by applying an additional selection rule, such as limiting the list to certain American-origin brands, excluding non-American brands, excluding some configurations, or using a narrower interpretation of “available.”
The word available creates a second problem. A model-year government table confirms that a vehicle or configuration was reported for MY2025; it does not prove that a new example remains on a dealer lot, that factory ordering is open, or that the model was built throughout calendar year 2025. The Chevrolet Malibu requires particular caution because its production and model-year status were in transition. A reader looking for a new car should distinguish among current ordering, calendar-year production, and remaining dealer inventory.
For that reason, the most accurate answer is not a new fixed number. The accurate answer is that U.S.-assembled sedan choices were unusually limited compared with earlier decades, but the exact count depends on the definition and the date on which availability is checked.
Which American-made electric sedans matter in 2025?
Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model S, and Lucid Air are the most important electric-sedan examples in the supplied 2025 research. Their relevance comes from U.S. manufacturing operations and Cars.com’s broader American-Made Index, not from treating every battery, motor, or other component as domestically sourced.
| Electric sedan | U.S. manufacturing evidence | 2025 relevance | What buyers still need to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tesla Model 3 | Tesla identifies Fremont, California, as a production hub for the Model 3 | Cars.com ranked the Model 3 No. 1 overall in its 2025 American-Made Index | Current inventory, exact build location, charging compatibility, and the vehicle’s configuration-specific content |
| Tesla Model S | Recognized in the supplied research as a U.S.-manufactured electric sedan and included in Cars.com’s 2025 ranking | Cars.com ranked the Model S No. 3 overall | Current production and availability should be confirmed separately from the ranking |
| Lucid Air | Lucid identifies Casa Grande, Arizona, as its purpose-built EV manufacturing facility and identifies the Air within its product and manufacturing operation | A prominent U.S.-manufactured luxury electric sedan | Exact vehicle configuration, component sourcing, charging equipment, and current availability |
Tesla’s Fremont Factory page supports the Model 3’s U.S. production connection. Lucid’s company and manufacturing information identifies its Arizona facility and the Air’s connection to that operation. Neither manufacturer source should be read as proof that every component in every vehicle is U.S.-sourced.

EV ownership also changes the practical meaning of “American-made.” A buyer comparing a Model 3, Model S, or Lucid Air should check home-charging access, public-charging needs, the correct connector or cable, installation requirements, and compatibility for the exact model year. A generic home EV charger or charging cable is not automatically suitable for every electric sedan.
What does Cars.com’s 2025 American-Made Index add?
Cars.com measures a broader idea of American-made than U.S. final assembly alone. The 2025 index considered final assembly, U.S./Canadian parts content, engine and transmission origin, and the size of the U.S. manufacturing workforce.
According to Cars.com’s 2025 American-Made Index, approximately 400 model-year 2025 vehicles were analyzed and 99 qualifying vehicles were ranked. Those figures describe Cars.com’s research pool, not the number of American-made sedans.
| Cars.com result | Vehicle type | What the result means for this topic |
|---|---|---|
| Tesla Model 3 — No. 1 overall | Electric sedan | The leading sedan in a broader economic-contribution ranking |
| Tesla Model Y — No. 2 overall | Electric SUV | High in the overall index but not a sedan |
| Tesla Model S — No. 3 overall | Electric sedan | Another leading sedan in the broader ranking |
| Tesla Model X — No. 4 overall | Electric SUV | Relevant to the overall ranking but outside a sedan-only count |
| Honda Accord | Mainstream sedan | Among the sedans appearing after the two leading Tesla sedans in the overall table |
| Acura Integra | Compact luxury sedan | Also appears among the sedan entries following Model 3 and Model S; the supplied research does not provide an exact overall position |
Cars.com’s approach is useful when the reader means “which vehicle contributes most broadly to the U.S. economy?” It is not a substitute for NHTSA’s configuration-level assembly and content data. A car can rank well in a broader index because of workforce, powertrain, and parts factors even when its AALA content percentage does not produce the same ordering.
“As import tariffs shake up the auto industry and influence consumer priorities, our 2025 American-Made Index offers a timely snapshot of which vehicles and automakers are truly driving U.S. economic impact.”

Patrick Masterson, lead researcher for the American-Made Index, quoted by Cars.com Investor Relations on June 17, 2025
Why does the headline’s associated list contain six sedans instead of eight?
The secondary article most closely associated with the headline names six vehicles: Cadillac CT4, Tesla Model 3, Dodge Charger, Cadillac CT5, Lucid Air, and Tesla Model S. The article therefore does not itself establish a count of eight.
The six-item list appears to use a narrower editorial idea of American-made sedans than NHTSA’s complete MY2025 assembly table. It emphasizes selected American-brand or American-origin survivors and prominent U.S.-manufactured EVs, while the NHTSA-based approach also includes U.S.-assembled sedans from Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, and Volvo. The secondary list is useful for identifying the headline’s framing, but the secondary article itself should not be treated as primary model-year verification.
The difference between six, eight, and more than eight is not a mathematical correction that produces one final universal number. Each result reflects a different scope: selected editorial survivors, American-brand or American-origin vehicles, or every qualifying sedan configuration assembled in the United States.

|---|---|---|
| U.S. final assembly across the widest set of choices | Accord, Accord Hybrid, Camry Hybrid, Integra, TLX, CT4, CT5, Malibu, selected Lexus ES, Altima, and S60 configurations | NHTSA’s MY2025 table lists these nameplates or configuration families, but the entries do not guarantee current inventory |

| Luxury sedan assembled in the United States without an American badge | Acura Integra, Acura TLX, selected Lexus ES, or specified Volvo S60 configurations | Brand origin does not change the assembly fact; AALA content remains configuration-specific |
| Electric sedan with a U.S. manufacturing connection | Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model S, or Lucid Air | Charging access, exact configuration, current production, and component sourcing need separate verification |
What should owners prepare for after choosing one?
Gasoline and hybrid sedans have different maintenance and diagnostic considerations from battery-electric sedans. An OBD2 scanner is an optional tool for gasoline and hybrid owners who want to retrieve diagnostic information from a vehicle’s standardized diagnostic access point; it does not replace professional diagnosis or repair. NHTSA’s technical material explains the role of standardized onboard vehicle diagnostics, while EV diagnostic systems and service procedures can differ. NHTSA’s technical report on vehicle diagnostic and event-data technology provides the relevant federal background.
For a Tesla or Lucid, the more immediate equipment question may be a home EV charger or compatible charging cable. Buyers should verify the connector, amperage, installation requirements, and model-year compatibility at the product-listing and vehicle level before purchasing; the research available for this article does not establish one universal charger recommendation for every Tesla or Lucid sedan.
How can you verify whether a specific sedan is American-made?
- Choose the definition first. Decide whether you mean U.S. final assembly, U.S./Canadian content, a broader economic ranking, or an American-brand badge. Do not compare a brand-origin list with an assembly-location list as though they measured the same thing.
- Check the exact model year and configuration. Use the NHTSA MY2025 AALA entry and match the sedan’s nameplate, engine, transmission, hybrid system, or plug-in-hybrid configuration. Content percentages can change within one nameplate.
- Separate assembly from content. Record the final-assembly country and the U.S./Canadian content percentage as two separate facts. A U.S.-assembled vehicle can contain globally sourced parts.
- Check the manufacturer’s plant information where available. Honda’s Marysville information, Tesla’s Fremont information, Lucid’s Casa Grande information, and Toyota’s U.S.-design and Camry information add plant or manufacturing context, but manufacturer pages do not replace the AALA configuration table.
- Verify actual availability. A MY2025 listing is not proof that a dealer has inventory or that factory ordering remains open. Check whether the question concerns a vehicle produced during calendar year 2025, a new MY2025 vehicle, or a remaining example on a dealer lot.
- Recheck when the article or purchase date changes. Model-year tables, production plans, and inventory change. Any update covering 2026 or a later calendar year should use the applicable model-year data rather than carrying forward the 2025 list.
For readers who want to compare vehicles beyond the headline, the most useful research record contains the exact model year, trim or powertrain, final-assembly country, reported U.S./Canadian content, and current availability status. That record is more meaningful than calling a sedan “American-made” solely because of its emblem.

Are there really only 8 American-made sedans left in 2025?
No. There is no authoritative universal count of exactly eight American-made sedans for 2025. NHTSA’s MY2025 AALA table lists more than eight sedan nameplates or configuration families with U.S. final assembly, while narrower editorial definitions can produce six, eight, or another number.
Does U.S. final assembly mean a sedan is completely American-made?
No. U.S. final assembly means a vehicle was assembled at a U.S. plant; it does not mean every part was made in the United States. NHTSA reports U.S./Canadian content separately, and the percentage can vary by trim or powertrain.
Which 2025 U.S.-assembled sedans have the highest listed domestic content?
The highest supplied NHTSA content figure is 60% U.S./Canadian content for listed Acura Integra, Acura TLX, and Honda Accord configurations. The figure applies to the cited configurations and should not automatically be applied to every trim.
Why does the associated article list six sedans instead of eight?
The secondary article associated with the headline names six vehicles: Cadillac CT4, Tesla Model 3, Dodge Charger, Cadillac CT5, Lucid Air, and Tesla Model S. That editorial list is not a substitute for NHTSA’s broader model-year assembly data.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The statement that there will be only eight American-made sedans left in 2025 is not supportable without a special selection rule. Under the clearest manufacturing definition—U.S. final assembly—NHTSA’s MY2025 data identifies more than eight sedan nameplates or configuration families. The reliable answer is therefore a qualified one: American sedan production has contracted sharply, but the count depends on what “American-made” and “available” mean.
