The TRD 3000GT is a JZA80-generation Toyota Supra turned into a road-going, race-inspired complete car by Toyota Racing Development (TRD). TRD presented it at the 1994 Tokyo Auto Salon as it developed a GT machine based on the Supra. Its wide body and functional aero made it look like a racer for the road—but the available evidence does not establish it as a homologation special, and the number actually completed remains uncertain.
What was the TRD 3000GT?
TRD’s official product-history archive describes the TRD 3000GT as a complete car presented at the 1994 Tokyo Auto Salon. The project accompanied development of a JZA80 Supra-based GT machine, and TRD says the road car wore the same racing aero cowl as the contemporary GT car.
That connection explains the 3000GT’s purposeful appearance: this was more than a standard Supra with decorative add-ons. TRD’s wide-body components were developed with wider track, aerodynamics and cooling in mind. But its racing inspiration should not be confused with a rule-driven homologation requirement. A July 2026 report by The Autopian says the model was not specifically required by homologation rules. The supported description is a race-inspired road car and promotional counterpart to TRD’s GT development.
What made the bodywork functional?
The aero package combined wider fenders with cooling ducts, bonnet vents, a shaped rear underfloor and a rear wing. TRD’s archive describes how those parts were intended to work:

- Wider fenders: The front panels add 30 mm per side and the rear panels 25 mm per side. That is 60 mm more overall width at the front and 50 mm at the rear.
- Front bumper ducts: TRD says the duct could admit more than twice the airflow of the standard car. Its three sections served the radiator and intercooler, with a provision for a possible oil-cooler installation.
- Bonnet vents: The vents allowed cooling air to escape. Covers kept water out in ordinary use and could be removed for sports driving.
- Rear bumper and underfloor: The rear bumper’s underfloor shape acted as a diffuser.
- Rear wing: TRD designed the wings to generate downforce. The Type-S wing could be adjusted to six angles; the fixed Type-R design used three supports.
The archive lists components in FRP and says the broader kit could not be installed as isolated pieces, with the bonnet and rear wing as exceptions. In other words, a TRD-style front bumper or fender alone does not establish that a car has the complete original package.
How many TRD 3000GTs were made?
The final production total is not established by the available reporting. The Autopian says 35 factory-built examples were planned, but that the actual number completed is unclear. Treat 35 as a reported plan, not a confirmed production count.

The same report recounts a US-origin Supra converted to 3000GT specification in 2001 and numbered #21. That account is a reminder that a 3000GT appearance—or even a reported number—does not by itself prove a car left the factory as a TRD complete car. Buyers assessing an example should look for provenance and chassis or VIN documentation, then check originality, completeness, condition, modifications and specification details such as wing type.
Can you still buy the TRD 3000GT kit?
No new sale is offered in TRD’s product-history archive, which marks sales as ended. The archive lists a historical wide-body-kit price of ¥925,000 before tax; it is not a current price or an indication of what an original kit costs today. The page does not state a publication year.

For a full-size car, distinguish documented original TRD components from reproduction parts and visually similar conversions. TRD’s archived fitment information also matters when judging completeness: apart from the bonnet and rear wing, the broader kit was not intended to be fitted as isolated pieces.

The TRD 3000GT was a 1994 Tokyo Auto Salon complete car that brought TRD’s Supra GT development into a road-car form. Its ducts, vents, underfloor and adjustable-wing option had stated aerodynamic or cooling purposes. It is fair to call it a rare, race-inspired Mk4 Supra; it is not fair to call it a proven homologation special or to state a definitive production total.
