Some Toyota Cressidas have recently sold at auction for more than $20,000, but that does not make every example valuable—or prove the model is appreciating. Reported results range from $7,900 to $23,250, and the cars differ in year, mileage and condition. The useful question is what a particular Cressida is worth, given its market, specification, preservation and records.
How much is a Toyota Cressida worth?
Recent reported auction sales show a wide spread rather than one dependable price. Old Cars Data lists these completed sales:

These are reported auction outcomes, not a representative survey, appraisal, or promise of what another car will sell for. The 1996 listing deserves particular caution when assessing a US-market Cressida: Toyota’s US model ended after 1992, so confirm the identity and market of any later-year vehicle before treating it as evidence for US Cressida prices. Why can an old Cressida command a high price?
The high sale is a useful signal that at least some buyers will pay substantial sums for a particular example; it is not proof that the model as a whole is expensive or that prices are rising. A well-preserved, well-documented car can differ sharply from one with rust, worn components, modifications or uncertain history. Mileage matters, but it does not tell the whole story: a lower-odometer car with neglected maintenance may be a less compelling purchase than a sound, carefully maintained driver.

Toyota’s US brochures for 1981 and 1982 show Cressida sedan and wagon configurations and period luxury equipment. Those materials help explain the model’s upscale positioning at the time, but they are not evidence of current market value. What should you compare before deciding a Cressida is worth the asking price?
- Year, generation and market: Establish exactly which car it is and where it was originally sold. Model specifications and the meaning of a model year can vary by country.
- Body and rust: Inspect structural areas and bodywork; cosmetic shine alone does not establish sound condition.
- Mileage and use: Consider the odometer alongside wear, maintenance and the car’s documented history.
- Originality and specification: Record modifications, trim, equipment and replacement parts. Like-for-like comparisons are more useful than comparisons based only on the Cressida name.
- Service records and provenance: Look for credible maintenance documentation and evidence of ownership history. Claims about rarity or a notable past should be supported.

Which Toyota Cressida years had an inline-six?
Do not assume the answer is “all of them.” Cressida specifications varied by year and market, and the reviewed Toyota US brochures for 1981 and 1982 do not establish a complete engine history across every generation. Verify the engine in the specific car and consult a year- and market-appropriate reference before making an engine, parts or service-manual compatibility decision. A manual should match the vehicle’s year, chassis, region and edition.
