Toyota says production of the fifth-generation GR Supra will end in spring 2026, while Nissan lists a 2027 Z lineup for the U.S. But that does not make the Z a proven future market leader: current official specifications establish what Nissan plans to sell, not how it will rank against rivals in 2027.
Is the Toyota Supra discontinued?
Toyota announced on April 3, 2025, that “Production of the fifth-generation GR Supra will end Spring 2026.” The company described the 2026 MkV Final Edition as a celebration of that generation. This is an end date for the fifth-generation car, not confirmation that Toyota will never build a Supra successor. Toyota USA Newsroom

What is replacing the Supra?
Nissan has not been identified as Toyota’s replacement, and the two companies have made no announcement that the Z will take over the Supra’s role. Nissan’s official U.S. lineup includes a 2027 Z, but that is a competing sports car—not a successor announced by Toyota.

How much does the 2027 Nissan Z cost?
Nissan’s U.S. specifications page lists four 2027 configurations. The starting prices below are the figures shown on that page; confirm the current price and any applicable charges with a dealer.

How does the Z compare with the Supra?
Toyota’s comparison page lists 2026 model-year figures for the Supra 3.0 and Z Sport. These are useful for a like-for-like snapshot, but they are not a comparison between a 2027 Z and a 2026 Supra. Toyota’s fuel-economy figures are EPA estimates, not real-world test results. Toyota’s 2026 comparison

| Engine output | 382 hp | 400 hp |
| EPA-estimated combined fuel economy | 25 mpg | 22 mpg |
| Cargo capacity | 10.2 cu. ft. | 6.9 cu. ft. |
In this manufacturer comparison, the 2026 Z Sport starts at a lower listed price and has higher listed horsepower. The Supra has higher estimated combined fuel economy and more cargo capacity. Those figures describe the specified 2026 models; they do not establish how a 2027 Z will compare with a future Toyota sports car, if one is announced.

Will the Nissan Z dominate the market in 2027?
That claim is not established by the available official information. Specifications show the Z’s price and equipment; they do not prove future sales leadership. “Dominate” would also need a defined measure—for example, U.S. unit sales within a named sports-car segment—and comparable full-year 2027 data.
Nissan’s U.S. sales report recorded 296 Z retail sales in February 2026 and 3,886 year to date through February. For the same periods in 2025, it reported 553 and 3,426. These are Z-only figures, not a segment ranking or a forecast of 2027 demand, and they do not show whether former Supra shoppers will buy a Z. Nissan’s February 2026 U.S. sales report
