The strongest supported answer is the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which Bugatti says reached 304.773 mph (490.484 km/h) in 2019. The year 2024 is the reference point for this answer, not the date of the run. Because “sports car” can mean different things, this article uses the narrower and more useful measure: a recorded top speed for a production car.
Which sports car had the highest recorded top speed in 2024?
By the production-car measure, it was the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+. Bugatti reported a 304.773 mph (490.484 km/h) run in 2019 and described the car as the first series-production car to pass 300 mph. Its account is available in the Bugatti Newsroom release.
This is a manufacturer-reported result. The available evidence does not establish the precise independent record-sanctioning protocol for the run, so it should not be described as Guinness-verified or assigned a particular certification method.
What does the 304.773 mph figure represent?
A reported record run, not a promise for every customer car
Bugatti’s release connects the figure to the Chiron Super Sport 300+ and says the customer edition was limited to 30 examples. The release does not establish that an ordinary customer car, in its delivered configuration, can reproduce the full record-run speed. Treat 304.773 mph as the speed Bugatti reported for that run, rather than a verified top-speed guarantee for every 300+.

Do not confuse it with the Chiron Super Sport
The Chiron Super Sport is a separate variant. Bugatti lists its top speed as 440 km/h (about 273 mph) in its high-speed testing release. That specification is not the 300+ record-run figure.
Why isn’t a projected speed the same as a record?
A car may be designed or predicted to reach a particular speed without having completed a documented top-speed run at that speed. The distinction matters when comparing the Chiron with the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut: Koenigsegg’s 2024 announcement concerned 0–400–0 km/h and related acceleration-and-braking records, not a top-speed run (Koenigsegg’s announcement via Cision). Top Gear’s 2024 coverage said a Jesko top-speed attempt was still pending and discussed tire availability as a constraint (Top Gear’s report).

When evaluating a contender, check the exact variant, the date and configuration of the run, whether the car qualifies as series-production or homologated, and whether the reported result is a top-speed measurement rather than an acceleration or braking record. These distinctions help separate a measured result from a manufacturer’s projection.

For a production-car top speed that had been reported by 2024, the Chiron Super Sport 300+ is the best-supported answer in the available material. The key number is Bugatti’s reported 2019 run, not a 2024 attempt; projected speeds and records in other performance categories do not change that comparison.
