Valentino Rossi topped one 2023 published list of the richest MotoGP riders, followed by Marc Márquez and Jorge Lorenzo. These are unverified estimates, not an authoritative ranking: the list itself gives two different figures for Rossi, and no transparent method or primary financial records establish the amounts.
Who did one 2023 list call the richest MotoGP riders?
Motive Talk published this ranking on October 29, 2023. Its figures should be read as that publisher’s estimates rather than verified net worth disclosures.

| Position | Rider | Amount reported by Motive Talk | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Valentino Rossi | $200 million in the article’s body; $210 million in its heading | Conflicting estimates in the same article |
| 2 | Marc Márquez | $35 million | Publisher estimate; methodology and primary financial documentation not provided |
| 3 | Jorge Lorenzo | $30 million | Publisher estimate; methodology and primary financial documentation not provided |
Motive Talk’s October 2023 list also includes unsupported claims elsewhere, so it is best treated as a record of what that publisher reported—not confirmation of the riders’ wealth. In particular, there is no sound basis in the article for choosing either of Rossi’s two amounts as the correct one.
Why do published net-worth estimates differ?
A net-worth estimate concerns accumulated assets minus liabilities. It is not the same as a rider’s reported annual salary, and neither figure alone reveals the full picture. Salary is only one potential source of income; sponsorships, business interests, investments, expenses, taxes, and liabilities can also affect personal wealth. The sources here do not provide audited, comparable information covering those categories for all three riders.

A second published list illustrates the uncertainty. Katadata’s March 21, 2022 article reproduced a 2021 ranking attributed to Sportingfree that put Rossi at US$135 million, Márquez at US$35 million, and Lorenzo at US$30 million. Katadata identifies the Sportingfree ranking as the source and notes that its English article is an AI-generated translation. It is a secondary reproduction, not a financial disclosure or independent verification.
| Rider | 2021 ranking reproduced by Katadata in 2022 | Motive Talk’s 2023 estimate |
|---|---|---|
| Valentino Rossi | US$135 million | $200 million in body text; $210 million in heading |
| Marc Márquez | US$35 million | $35 million |
| Jorge Lorenzo | US$30 million | $30 million |
The amounts are publisher estimates from different lists, not comparable verified measurements. Their repetition across lists does not make them confirmed facts.

Autosport’s estimates offer a more structured view of rider pay, but they answer a different question from net worth. For the 24-rider 2022 MotoGP grid, Autosport estimated total pay of €47,150,000, or about €1.96 million per rider on average. It compared that total with €58.5 million three years earlier, describing the 2022 amount as 19.45% lower. These are grid-wide salary estimates, not estimates of accumulated wealth.

Autosport estimated Márquez’s 2022 pay at €15 million before victory or title prizes. Its comparison also put Joan Mir at €6.5 million and Fabio Quartararo at €4 million. The contrast shows how estimated pay can vary widely among riders, but it does not establish who has the greatest net worth.
These figures apply to Autosport’s reporting on the 2022 season; they should not be presented as current salaries. Nor can a salary ranking be substituted for a wealth ranking: pay is an annual flow, while net worth is a balance of assets and liabilities accumulated over time.
