Consumer Reports did not publish an official, definitive top 10 list of the most reliable electric SUVs in 2025. Its October 2025 ratings separate electric SUVs into multiple categories and show predicted reliability as a distinct measure. A 10-model list under this headline is therefore a secondary publisher’s compilation, not a Consumer Reports ranking.
Does Consumer Reports rank the 10 most reliable electric SUVs?
No. Consumer Reports’ ratings current as of October 2025 divide vehicles into Electric SUVs, Electric SUVs 3-row, and Electric luxury SUVs. The tables report each vehicle’s predicted reliability, but do not combine those categories into one official top-10 ranking. The EVSHIFT article dated December 14, 2025 describes its own selection across CR categories and model years; its compilation method should not be attributed to CR. Because the complete ten-model order and ranking metric are not established here, it would be misleading to present a numbered list as if CR named these winners. The useful comparison is the predicted-reliability rating in CR’s chart, read separately from its broader vehicle score.
What Consumer Reports’ reliability rating means
Predicted reliability is CR’s forecast of how a new model will hold up, based on problems reported by members in its Auto Surveys. CR generally uses the latest three years of data when a model has not been redesigned or significantly updated. If responses are insufficient, or a model is new or redesigned, CR may use judgment informed by the brand’s track record and similar models. The October 2025 ratings document says the surveys cover more than 300,000 vehicles. See Consumer Reports’ 2025 SUV ratings.

CR’s Overall Score is not a reliability score. It combines road-test performance, reliability and owner-satisfaction survey results, crash-prevention system availability, and crash-test results when available. Its road test includes more than 50 objective and subjective evaluations at the Connecticut Auto Test Center. A high overall score can therefore coexist with a middling predicted-reliability rating.

The following examples show why the measures should be read independently. The values are CR’s chart entries for 2025 models, current as of October 2025; they are not a complete top-ten ranking.

These are values in CR’s rating chart, not percentages or counts of problems. The chart also includes other 2025 models in its regular Electric SUVs category, including the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Chevrolet Equinox EV, Volkswagen ID.4, Subaru Solterra, Honda Prologue, Toyota bZ4X, and Chevrolet Blazer EV. Separate three-row and luxury SUV tables mean the regular category is not a full-market inventory.

- Compare predicted reliability, not just Overall Score. Use the reliability field for CR’s forecast; consult overall score for the broader blend of performance, ownership, and safety measures.
- Keep model year and redesign status in view. CR may rely on earlier years when a model has not changed significantly, but new or redesigned vehicles can have limited survey data.
- Match vehicle categories and seating needs. A two-row electric SUV, three-row model, and luxury SUV appear in separate CR categories and may not be direct alternatives.
- Read the range figure’s basis. CR uses its own 70-mph highway test for range when tested; otherwise it uses the EPA figure, marked “E” in the ratings document.
- Weigh ownership tradeoffs alongside reliability. Charging speed and equipment, outward visibility, ride, controls, and owner satisfaction can affect whether a vehicle suits a particular driver.
What CR’s broader reliability findings say about EVs
In an article updated December 4, 2025, Consumer Reports said its latest reliability ratings drew on owners of about 380,000 vehicles from model years 2000 through 2025, plus a few early 2026 models. For 2023–2025 model years, CR reported that EVs and plug-in hybrids had about 80 percent more problems on average than gas-only vehicles. That is a broad powertrain-level average, not a finding that ranks electric SUVs or predicts the reliability of any one model. Read CR’s reliability findings.
