Among the tri-motor EVs supported by published specifications for a 2024-focused comparison, the Lucid Air Sapphire ranks first at 1,234 hp, followed by the Tesla Model S Plaid at Tesla’s current stated “1,000+ horsepower,” then the Rivian R1 Tri-Motor at 850 hp. This is a ranking by manufacturer-published power—not a measured ranking of acceleration or top speed. The Tesla figure is an open-ended current claim, not a confirmed 2024-specific rating.

The figures below come from manufacturers, not a shared independent test. Tesla’s “1,000+” wording establishes a threshold rather than an exact rating, so its placement ahead of Rivian’s 850 hp is supported, but the precise gap is not.

1. 2024 Lucid Air Sapphire: 1,234 hp
Lucid’s 2024 technical specifications list 1,234 hp (908 kW) from a three-motor all-wheel-drive system: one permanent-magnet motor at the front and two at the rear. The same sheet lists 1,430 lb-ft of torque, a manufacturer-claimed 0–60 mph time of 1.89 seconds, 0–100 mph in 3.84 seconds, a quarter-mile in 8.95 seconds at 158 mph, and a 205 mph top speed.
Those figures describe Lucid’s published specifications and claims; they do not establish how the Sapphire would compare with the other vehicles in a common instrumented test. Lucid’s release gave the car an EPA-estimated range of 427 miles. It also announced a fully equipped U.S. launch price of $249,000 before fees, which is historical launch pricing rather than a current offer. In its August 8, 2023 final production announcement, Lucid CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson said: “The result is an extreme performance car that offers delightful responsiveness and everyday practicality.”

2. Tesla Model S Plaid: 1,000+ hp
Tesla describes the Model S Plaid as tri-motor all-wheel drive and lists “1,000+ horsepower” and a top speed of up to 200 mph on its Model S product page. The plus sign matters: Tesla does not publish an exact horsepower figure there, and the current page is not a 2024-specific archived specification. It supports the ranking between Lucid and Rivian by stated output threshold, but not a precise horsepower comparison with either.
3. Rivian R1 Tri-Motor: 850 hp
Rivian’s November 21, 2024 announcement introduced the R1 Tri-Motor with 850 hp from two rear motors and one front motor. Rivian said the R1T could reach 60 mph in 2.9 seconds. The announcement also gave estimated range of up to 371 miles for its stated configuration; range is configuration-dependent, not a universal figure for every R1 Tri-Motor.

At announcement, Rivian listed U.S. starting prices of $99,900 for the R1T and $105,900 for the R1S. These are dated prices, not current offers. Rivian cautioned that horsepower, torque, and acceleration estimates vary with battery, tires, drive modes, vehicle load, and weather.
Does the horsepower ranking identify the fastest EV?
No. Horsepower is the explicit ranking criterion here, but it is not interchangeable with acceleration time or maximum speed. The published figures use different conditions and may not be directly comparable: Lucid lists 0–60 mph, quarter-mile, and top speed; Rivian gives an R1T 0–60 mph estimate; and Tesla gives a top speed “up to” 200 mph. No common independent instrumented test establishes which of the three is quickest overall.

For a like-for-like acceleration or speed ranking, compare the same metric and test conditions, and distinguish manufacturer estimates from independent measurements. The available figures provide useful context, but not a definitive cross-model winner on those measures.

These vehicles do not all have equally specific 2024 evidence. Lucid’s power figure is in a 2024 technical sheet. Tesla’s cited product page is current, not an archived 2024 specification, so its exact 2024 output remains unconfirmed by that source. Rivian announced the R1 Tri-Motor in November 2024, late in the calendar year; the announcement alone does not show that it was available throughout 2024.

The 2024 Kia EV9 does not belong in this tri-motor ranking: Kia America’s 2024 specifications identify its all-wheel-drive trims as dual-motor, with the GT-Line listed at 379 hp.
