Those are different kinds of triples, and their ratings should not be treated as a controlled head-to-head ranking.
Why a definitive all-time top 10 is not established
A trustworthy ranking needs a complete set of candidates and comparable figures for each: exact model year and variant, peak output, unit, rpm, and measurement basis. The verified specifications here provide useful examples, but they do not establish that these are the ten highest-output three-cylinder motorcycles ever made or settle their rank order against every historical contender.
Manufacturer-claimed peak output is the fairest basis for the available examples. The figures below retain the unit used by each manufacturer. They mix bhp, HP, and PS, and the available sources do not establish a shared measurement protocol. In particular, MV Agusta explicitly labels its Dragster figure as crankshaft output; it is not a rear-wheel dyno result.
Verified high-output three-cylinder motorcycles
| Model and year | Engine and role | Manufacturer-claimed peak power | Torque | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Triumph Rocket 3 TFC (2019) | 2,458 cc inline triple; limited-edition roadster | 182 PS at 7,000 rpm | 225 Nm at 4,000 rpm | Triumph’s 2019 announcement; this was a limited run of 750 motorcycles. Triumph Media Website |
| Triumph Rocket 3 R Storm (current U.S. product specification, accessed 2026) | 2,458 cc inline triple; roadster | 180 bhp (134 kW) at 7,000 rpm | Not stated on the cited page | Current manufacturer specification, not an independent measurement. Triumph Rocket 3 R Storm |
| Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS (current U.S. product specification) | 1,160 cc inline triple; naked sport motorcycle | 180.5 HP (134.6 kW) at 10,750 rpm | Not stated in the cited specification | Triumph’s technical specification gives 180.5 HP; page marketing copy rounds this to 180 HP. Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS |
| MV Agusta Dragster RR Ottantesimo (MY25) | 798 cc three-cylinder; naked sport motorcycle | 140 hp at 12,300 rpm | 87 Nm at 10,250 rpm | MV Agusta’s technical sheet explicitly specifies output at the crankshaft. MV Agusta MY25 technical sheet |
How much horsepower does a Triumph Rocket 3 have?
It depends on the Rocket 3 variant. Triumph’s current U.S. product page specifies 180 bhp (134 kW) at 7,000 rpm for the Rocket 3 R Storm. The 2019 Rocket 3 TFC special edition was announced at 182 PS at 7,000 rpm. These are distinct manufacturer ratings for different variants and years, so the TFC figure should not be substituted for the current R Storm specification.

- HIGH-QUALITY CONSTRUCTION: Manufactured to exact specifications with proper dimensions and materials to ensure reliable sealing performance and long-lasting durability for your engine rebuild or repair
The units also differ: PS is metric horsepower, while bhp is brake horsepower. The figures are close but are not identical units; preserve the manufacturer’s label when quoting them rather than presenting them as the same number.
Which triple-cylinder motorcycle has the most horsepower?
Among the verified examples above, the 2019 Triumph Rocket 3 TFC has the largest stated peak-power number at 182 PS. That does not establish it as the all-time winner: the examples are not a complete historical candidate list, and their units and rating bases are not fully uniform. The current Rocket 3 R Storm is rated at 180 bhp, while the MV Agusta Dragster RR Ottantesimo’s 140 hp figure is explicitly measured at the crankshaft.

Why power figures do not tell the whole story
Displacement and engine character
Three cylinders describe an engine layout, not a single performance category. The Rocket 3’s 2,458 cc engine and the Dragster’s 798 cc engine serve markedly different motorcycle roles. Peak output alone does not capture how a bike delivers power, its gearing, mass, or intended use.
Peak power versus acceleration
Triumph reports that the Rocket 3 R set a production Triumph record by accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 2.73 seconds. That is a manufacturer-reported result, not an independently verified comparison across all the motorcycles discussed here. Triumph’s Rocket 3 acceleration announcement

Crankshaft and rear-wheel ratings
A crankshaft rating describes power measured or stated at the engine output; a rear-wheel dyno figure is taken after power passes through the drivetrain. Because drivetrain losses affect the latter, those measurements should not be combined in a single leaderboard without clearly separating their bases.

- A defined inclusion rule for production bikes, limited editions, prototypes, and one-off builds.
- Exact model years and variants, with peak power and rpm attributed to a manufacturer or a named independent test.
- Consistent units, or transparent conversions that identify the original rating.
- A clear distinction between crankshaft claims and rear-wheel measurements.
