Which 2024 cars had the lowest starting prices?
Kelley Blue Book’s September 28, 2023 comparison reported the Nissan Versa as the lowest-starting-price new car for the 2024 model year, followed by the Mitsubishi Mirage. The figures below come from different sources and do not share a uniformly verified price basis, so they are a historical comparison—not a definitive ranking of today’s offers or out-the-door costs.

Kelley Blue Book also said the 2024 Kia Rio and Kia Soul were confirmed below a $20,000 starting-price line at the time of its September 2023 article. It cautioned that mandatory freight could push most vehicles above that amount, and said it had not yet received final 2024 Hyundai Venue pricing. That dated shortlist is not a complete final ranking.
Why the Versa has two official starting prices
The Versa’s price depends on which Nissan publication you consult. Nissan’s September 2023 pricing announcement gives a $16,130 starting figure, matching Kelley Blue Book’s report. Nissan’s 2024 Versa press kit instead lists a $16,680 starting MSRP and separately identifies $1,140 for destination and handling. The documents therefore do not support treating one precise number as an uncontested, destination-adjusted price.
Nissan’s press kit describes the 2024 Versa as a carryover offered in S, SV, and SR grades. It says the MSRP excludes tax, title, license, and options, and that dealers set actual prices. Confirm the trim and the price basis with a seller when comparing a particular car.
What the lowest sticker price does—and does not—tell you
MSRP is a starting point, not the amount you necessarily pay. Depending on the vehicle and transaction, the final figure can include destination, taxes, title, registration or license fees, options, and retailer or dealer charges. Nissan and Kia both specify exclusions from their published prices; Nissan also states that dealers set actual prices.

Monthly payments are not a substitute for comparing total cost. The Center for Automotive Research’s August 2024 affordability report analyzes vehicle transaction pricing and loan affordability by loan amount, interest rate, and term. It also notes that its set of sub-$25,000 electric vehicles includes three models only after tax credits. A meaningful comparison should account for the amount financed, interest rate, loan term, and applicable incentives—not just the advertised starting price.
What the Versa offers beyond its price
Nissan’s 2024 Versa press kit lists Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Automatic Braking, and High Beam Assist as standard equipment. Nissan reports up to 40 mpg highway for models equipped with the Xtronic CVT and up to 15 cubic feet of trunk capacity. These are manufacturer-published specifications; the fuel-economy figure is specifically for CVT models.
Those details help describe the Versa, but they are not enough to establish that it is the best overall value against every low-priced alternative. A fairer decision would compare equivalent trims, equipment, destination and dealer charges, fuel economy, practical space, and financing costs across the cars you can actually find.

- Search local listings. Look for the exact model and trim in your area; a model-year price article does not verify local stock.
- Ask for a written, itemized price. Confirm the vehicle’s model year and trim, destination, required fees, options, dealer charges, taxes, and registration costs.
- Compare the full financing terms. Check the amount financed, APR, loan length, any incentives, and total payments rather than judging affordability by MSRP or monthly payment alone.
Nissan’s current cars, sedans, and hatchbacks page can help with current Nissan lineup information, but it does not establish that a particular 2024 Versa is available at a nearby dealer. Verify stock directly with local sellers.
