For U.S. model-year 2024 conventional hybrids, the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid is the lowest-priced qualifying AWD SUV identified here: Toyota lists a starting MSRP of $28,220, and AWD is standard. That is a starting-price comparison—not a ranking of out-the-door prices or total ownership costs.
Why the Corolla Cross Hybrid qualifies
Toyota’s 2024 Corolla Cross Hybrid model page lists a $28,220 starting MSRP. Toyota’s 2024 Corolla Cross brochure identifies the hybrid as an all-wheel-drive model, with AWD standard. On the available evidence, it is the lowest-starting-price AWD hybrid SUV candidate in this comparison.
The qualification matters: the comparison is limited to U.S. 2024 model-year conventional hybrids, not plug-in hybrids, and it is based on the lowest reported starting prices rather than a complete audit of every trim and dealer listing.
How it compares with other 2024 hybrid SUVs
| Vehicle | Reported starting price | AWD information in the cited source |
|---|---|---|
| Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid | $28,220 starting MSRP (Toyota) | Standard AWD (Toyota) |
| Kia Niro Hybrid | $28,315 including destination (AP/Edmunds) | No AWD available, according to AP/Edmunds |
| Kia Sportage Hybrid | $29,965 base starting price (AP/Edmunds) | AWD trim and price not specified in the cited passage |
| Toyota RAV4 Hybrid | $33,075 base starting price (AP/Edmunds) | Every RAV4 Hybrid has AWD, according to AP/Edmunds |
| Hyundai Tucson Hybrid | $33,950 base starting price (AP/Edmunds) | Standard AWD, according to AP/Edmunds |
| Honda CR-V hybrid | $35,400 Sport Hybrid base price (AP/Edmunds) | Exact drivetrain details are not stated in the cited passage |
The comparison figures come from Associated Press, distributed by Edmunds. Their price bases are not fully aligned: the Niro figure explicitly includes destination, while Toyota calls its figure a starting MSRP. The table is useful for context, but it is not a like-for-like destination-included price ranking. The Sportage’s cited base price also does not establish the price of an AWD trim.

What the Toyota’s published specifications say
Toyota’s brochure estimates 42 mpg combined for the Corolla Cross Hybrid S: 45 mpg city and 38 mpg highway. These are manufacturer estimates, not independent test results established by the cited material. Toyota also lists 196 net combined horsepower and up to 21.5 cubic feet of cargo space for the hybrid.
Those figures help describe the vehicle, but they do not establish how it compares in real-world fuel use, passenger comfort, or cargo usability. For a purchase decision, check the specific trim’s equipment and cargo needs alongside its price.

What “most affordable” does—and does not—mean
Here, “most affordable” means the lowest reported starting price among the qualifying AWD hybrid SUV candidates identified. It does not mean lowest out-the-door price or cheapest to own. The cited prices do not account for dealer adjustments, taxes, financing, incentives, insurance, fuel prices, maintenance, or depreciation. Those costs vary by location, buyer, and vehicle, and they are not established by this comparison.
A stricter price comparison would use the exact AWD trim for each vehicle and include destination on the same basis. The available figures are enough to identify the Corolla Cross Hybrid as the lowest-priced candidate in this comparison, but not to calculate every model’s equivalent transaction price.
