The Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback and Mirage G4 sedan were discontinued in the U.S. after the 2024 model year, and production ended in late 2024. That does not mean every car disappeared from dealer lots at once: Mitsubishi says some new 2024 examples may remain, while used cars may also be available. Whether you can find one depends on your location and the individual vehicle.
Is the Mitsubishi Mirage still being made in the U.S.?
No. Mitsubishi discontinued the Mirage hatchback and Mirage G4 sedan in the U.S. after model year 2024. In August 2024, Mitsubishi North American spokesperson Jeremy Barnes told Car and Driver, “Mirage is being discontinued in the U.S. market, and there will not be a 2025 model.” Mitsubishi later said production concluded in late 2024.
This is a U.S.-market statement; it does not establish that the Mirage nameplate has ended in every country.
Can you still buy a new Mitsubishi Mirage?
Possibly, as leftover 2024 dealer stock—not as a newly produced model. Mitsubishi’s U.S. legacy page says some dealers may still have new 2024 Mirages and advises shoppers to check locally because availability varies.

Listings are only snapshots. Cars.com reported nearly 90 Mirage and Mirage G4 listings combined on its site on March 2, 2026; that dated count does not confirm what is available now or at a particular dealership. Mitsubishi recorded 29 Mirage sales in its first-quarter 2026 results, describing the figure in connection with sell-through. Its table reports the line as “MIRAGE,” not as separate hatchback and G4 totals.
What to check before traveling to a dealer
- Ask the dealer to confirm the specific vehicle is physically available and request its VIN.
- Get a written out-the-door price, including destination, dealer fees, options, taxes, and financing terms.
- Confirm whether the vehicle is new, titled, or otherwise subject to a prior sale, and review the applicable warranty documents.
Why the Mirage was called America’s cheapest new car
“Cheapest” is shorthand for the Mirage’s place among low-priced new cars; the ranking depends on the date and on what a comparison includes, such as destination charges, options, transaction prices, location, and vehicle category.

For a dated benchmark, Cars.com reported on March 2, 2026 that the lowest-priced new car in its comparison was the 2026 Hyundai Venue at $22,150 including destination. The same report put the 2024 Mirage’s starting price at $18,110. Those figures describe that report’s comparison, not a live price quote or a guarantee that either model is available at those prices today.
Historical context also helps explain the Mirage’s reputation. The Associated Press reported that the Mirage averaged $19,205 in sales in July 2023, citing Cox Automotive. In the same report, AP said that in August 2023 the Mirage was the only car with an average sale price below $20,000, compared with about a dozen small cars under that threshold five years earlier. These are period-specific figures, not current market prices.

What should you compare when shopping for one?
A leftover new Mirage, a used example, and a different current-production car are not interchangeable purchases. Compare the specific vehicle and your needs rather than relying on its former starting price.
| What to compare | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Availability and status | Is it new old stock, used, or a currently produced model? Verify the VIN and listing with the seller. |
| Total purchase cost | What are the destination charge, dealer fees, options, taxes, and financing terms? Compare prices on the same basis and record the date. |
| Condition and ownership costs | For a used car, check mileage, maintenance and accident history, tires, brakes, insurance, and remaining warranty coverage. |
| Fit for your use | Compare fuel economy, passenger and cargo space, size, performance, and safety features against what you need. |
Cars.com described the Mirage as slow, noisy, and cramped while also noting its fuel economy. Its March 2, 2026 report gave a maximum EPA rating of 36/43/39 mpg city/highway/combined for the 2024 Mirage. That is a reported maximum, not a promise for every trim or individual car; check the EPA information for the exact vehicle you are considering.

If you are comparing a used Mirage with a leftover new one, assess each car’s mileage, condition, history, price, and warranty status individually. The existence of listings at a past date does not establish today’s supply.
Can owners still get service and warranty support?
Yes. Mitsubishi says authorized dealers and service centers continue to provide servicing, maintenance, and repairs for the Mirage, and that warranty coverage continues under the original warranty terms. The applicable coverage depends on the individual vehicle and owner circumstances; consult the original warranty documents and Mitsubishi about a specific car.
