On styling alone, I think the MG7 is the prettier four-door coupe: its long, sloping fastback roof and dramatic rear treatment give it a cleaner, more cohesive profile than the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé. That is a design judgment, not an objective result—beauty is subjective, and the two cars are represented here by specifications from different markets and model years.
What does the MG7 look like?
The second-generation MG7 launched in China on March 29, 2023. Its design is built around a fastback silhouette: the roof arcs down toward the rear, visually joining the cabin and tail into one flowing shape. MG also specified frameless doors and an adaptive, three-section electric rear spoiler for the launch model. Those features make the car look more like a sleek coupe than a conventional sedan, though they do not by themselves establish that it is better-looking.
MG called the form an “elegant fastback design” (优雅溜背造型设计) in its own launch material. The phrase is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent design verdict. SAIC Motor’s China launch announcement documents the styling and features.
Is the MG7 a four-door coupe?
It is reasonable to describe the MG7 as a four-door coupe in the broad styling sense: it has four side doors and a roofline that slopes toward the rear in a coupe-like fastback profile. The term is a body-style description, not proof that the car shares the dimensions, practicality, or engineering of a traditional two-door coupe. The MG launch materials describe a fastback sedan, while BMW uses “Gran Coupé” for its four-door 4 Series.

How does the MG7 compare with the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé?
Silhouette and proportions
The MG7’s roofline is the stronger part of its visual case. Its fastback shape reads as one continuous sweep from the windscreen to the tail, making the rear section look integrated rather than appended. The BMW also has a coupé-like roofline, but its Gran Coupé format gives more visual emphasis to the distinct rear-door and boot area. My preference is the MG7’s simpler, more unified outline; a buyer who likes a more defined three-box profile may prefer the BMW.
Front-end identity
The two cars make different styling choices at the nose, and which works better is a matter of taste. The MG7’s front treatment complements its low, flowing profile; the BMW’s front gives the car a more assertive, separately legible face. Viewed as a whole, I find the MG7’s front-to-roof transition more harmonious. That is a visual reading, not a manufacturer specification or independent design assessment.

Rear treatment and spoiler
The MG7’s rear is more theatrical, particularly with its adaptive three-section electric spoiler. SAIC lists that as equipment; its presence should not be confused with proof of a styling advantage or a claim about aerodynamic performance. The BMW launch description emphasizes the practical liftback-style opening and wide-opening boot. On appearance, the MG7’s spoiler and fastback tail make a bolder finish, while the BMW’s approach looks more restrained.
Dimensions and practicality
The available figures below are not a same-year, same-market comparison: MG’s numbers come from an Egypt-market brochure dated July 2025, while BMW’s are from its UK launch release in 2021. Check the exact local model and trim before using them to compare cars for purchase.

| Specification | MG7 | BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé |
|---|---|---|
| Source and context | MG Motor Egypt brochure, July 2025 | BMW Group UK launch release, 2021 |
| Length × width × height | 4,884 × 1,889 × 1,447 mm | 4,783 × 1,852 × 1,442 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,778 mm | 2,856 mm |
| Boot capacity | Not stated in the cited Egypt brochure figures | 470 litres, expandable to 1,290 litres, in the UK launch release |
The MG7 is longer and wider in these cited specifications, while the BMW has the longer wheelbase. That does not settle interior room or ease of loading: market, trim, measurement conventions, and body design matter. BMW’s historical UK release specifically describes a four-door, five-seat car with a wide-opening boot and gives the capacity figures above. The MG dimensions are from the MG Motor Egypt July 2025 brochure; BMW’s figures and body description are in its UK launch release.
What did the MG7 launch lineup include?
SAIC announced six versions for China in 2023, with launch prices from 119,800 to 169,800 yuan. Those are historical China launch prices, not current quotes or a direct comparison with BMW pricing in another market. The launch powertrain pairings were:

SAIC MG’s six-version guide gives example manufacturer figures of 188 hp and 300 Nm for the 1.5T, and 261 hp and 405 Nm for the 2.0T. These are guide figures, not independent test results, and should not be assumed to apply to every market or trim. The China launch details are in SAIC Motor’s announcement and the SAIC MG six-version guide.

The cited documents do not establish current availability in every country. SAIC’s launch announcement concerns China; the dimensions above come from an Egypt-market brochure; and the BMW figures describe its UK launch context. A Latin American MG7 launch-news item also exists, but a launch article does not confirm current inventory or specifications in any particular country. Check the official local MG and BMW sites or dealers for present sale status, model year, equipment, and price before making a buying comparison. MG Motor Latin America’s launch item is market-specific information, not evidence of universal availability.
