Mercedes-Benz unveiled the updated GLE family on March 31, 2026, so the snow-covered AMG prototype that prompted the spy-photo reports is now historical context—not an unrevealed model. The refresh brings new lighting and cabin technology, while Mercedes-AMG has announced a 577-hp GLE 53 plug-in hybrid for SUV and Coupé body styles. The exact lineup and ordering details vary by market.
What happened to the camouflaged AMG GLE?
A Motor.es report published August 25, 2025 showed a camouflaged AMG GLE 63 prototype and described twin-star lighting, plus expected grille, bumper and interior revisions. At the time, its statements about reveal timing and powertrain were forecasts, not confirmed specifications. Mercedes-Benz has since revealed the updated GLE family, including the GLE Coupé and GLS, on March 31, 2026. Motor.es’ 2025 spy-photo report is useful for understanding what the prototype suggested; the production details are now better established by the manufacturer’s announcement.
Mercedes-Benz says the update involves approximately 3,000 new or revised components. That is the company’s description of the breadth of the refresh, rather than a claim that every part of the vehicle is new.
What changed on the revealed GLE?
Exterior: twin-star lighting and a larger grille
The updated GLE adopts twin-star motifs in its headlamps and a larger grille with an illuminated central star, according to Mercedes-Benz’s official GLE announcement. These features turn the lighting and front-end details anticipated from the camouflaged prototype into confirmed production-model changes.
