Mercedes has not confirmed a flat-plane-crank V8 for a future C-Class or C 63. Road & Track reported on July 21, 2026, that Mercedes board member Mathias Geisen discussed developing a V8, assessing demand and considering where it might be used. The report connects that engine to a possible C-Class application, but Geisen did not confirm one.
Has Mercedes confirmed a V8 C 63?
No. The C-Class connection is a reported possibility, not an announced production model. In Road & Track’s July 21, 2026 report, Geisen said: “First we have to make sure we have a very nice and sophisticated V-8, and of course we now look into market demand and have some plans of where else to use it.” The reported remarks concern V8 development and potential applications; they do not name the C 63 as a confirmed destination.
The report describes the new engine as a flat-plane-crank V8 and links the possibility to its rollout after launch in the updated S-Class. That context supports speculation about another application, not a confirmed C-Class program. Mercedes has not published a production decision or a future C 63 V8 specification in the cited sources.
What powers the 2026 C 63 in the United States?
Mercedes-Benz USA lists the 2026 Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE as a plug-in hybrid with a handcrafted 2.0-liter inline-four, an electrically assisted turbocharger and a rear electric motor. The U.S. product page lists 671 hp and 752 lb-ft for this current model. Those figures belong to its hybrid system; they are not specifications for the reported V8. Mercedes-Benz’s September 21, 2022 announcement of the 2024 C 63 S E PERFORMANCE described its 671-hp combined system output and 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Jochen Hermann, then a Mercedes-AMG executive board member and chief technical officer, called the car “a technological masterpiece that takes a new approach.” His statement referred to the four-cylinder hybrid, not a future V8. What is still unknown about a possible V8 C-Class?
The cited reporting and Mercedes materials do not establish a launch date, output, price or market availability for a C-Class powered by the reported V8. They also do not provide a confirmed production specification. Mercedes’ C-Class newsroom index lists an August 17, 2026 update announcement, but that index entry does not confirm a V8 C-Class.

Until Mercedes makes a model announcement, the useful distinction is between a discussed engine and a confirmed car: the reported comments indicate V8 development and consideration of possible applications, while the U.S.-listed 2026 C 63 remains a four-cylinder plug-in hybrid.
