Jeep says production began there in 2022 and reported “up to 82% localisation”—a qualified figure, not a claim that every part is Indian-made. The 2026 model-year update adds sliding second-row seats to Limited and Overland variants, giving occupants more flexibility between legroom and cargo space.
What is the Jeep Meridian?
The Meridian is Jeep’s three-row SUV for India, with seating for up to seven. Jeep’s 2022 launch material described a 2.0-litre Multijet II turbo-diesel and offered six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic transmissions, with front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive configurations. Those are launch-era specifications; availability can differ by model year and trim.
Jeep positioned the vehicle as designed, engineered and tuned for Indian road conditions. The company also reported more than 1,000,000 km of development and qualification testing in 2022; that is Jeep’s figure, not an independent test result. Jeep India’s production announcement and launch announcement provide the company’s account.
Why is it described as Indian-built?
Jeep India said Meridian production began on 3 May 2022 at its joint-venture facility in Ranjangaon. In that announcement, Stellantis India’s then CEO and managing director Roland Bouchara said the SUV would have “up to 82% localisation.” The wording matters: it describes a maximum localization figure reported by the manufacturer, not an independent sourcing audit or proof that every component is made in India.

Bouchara called it “the third new model manufactured in India since 2021 as part of Jeep’s product offensive.” The manufacturing location and localization claim are the concrete basis for calling the Meridian Indian-built. Jeep’s 2022 production release attributes the statement and figure to Stellantis India.
What changed for the 2026 model year?
Sliding second-row seats on Limited and Overland
Jeep says the 2026 Meridian’s split second-row seat can slide by up to 140 mm on Limited and Overland variants. The adjustment is intended to let occupants balance second-row legroom against space for luggage behind the row. Check the current variant equipment list and vehicle configuration when comparing a particular car; the release does not establish that this feature is available on every trim.

Engine, output and claimed fuel economy
Jeep lists a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel producing 170 hp and 350 Nm. It also states fuel economy of up to 16.25 km/l, certified by ARAI. These are manufacturer-published specifications; the fuel-economy figure is not an independent real-world result and actual consumption will depend on conditions. Jeep’s 2026 announcement contains the Meridian details, although the page heading refers to the Compass Track Edition.
ADAS and variant equipment
The same announcement refers to ADAS on select variants. It does not make ADAS a range-wide specification, so prospective buyers should check the equipment list for the exact variant and model year rather than assume every Meridian includes the same driver-assistance features.

What do the published prices mean?
Jeep’s 2026 release lists a Meridian range starting price of ₹23.33 lakh and says the new 2026 range with sliding seats starts at ₹30.01 lakh. These are release figures, not guaranteed current on-road or transaction prices. The amount a buyer pays depends on the chosen variant and location, as well as taxes, insurance and dealer offers; request a current written quote.
For historical context, Jeep announced GST-related savings of up to ₹2.47 lakh for the Meridian on 9 September 2025, effective 22 September 2025, and said the saving varied by variant. That was a dated announcement, not a standing discount. See Jeep India’s GST announcement.

What ownership and accessory options has Jeep announced?
Confidence 7 ownership program
In January 2026, Jeep announced Confidence 7 for Meridian and Compass owners. The described options include extended warranty, annual maintenance, roadside assistance, service privileges and dealer-offered assured buyback. Availability, eligibility, prices and buyback conditions depend on the program’s current written terms; ask an authorized dealer to explain the terms applicable to the specific vehicle. Meridian-specific accessories
Jeep’s official accessory catalog lists standard and premium car covers for the Meridian, and the Jeep Gear store has a Meridian collection that includes sunshades, floor mats and cargo mats. Product availability and prices can change. Before buying any cover or marketplace listing, confirm model-year compatibility and mirror-pocket configuration; the existence of a listing does not establish that its fit has been tested.

What should buyers compare before choosing one?
The Meridian’s three-row layout and sliding second row make it useful to assess the space trade-off in person, particularly with all seats occupied and luggage aboard. When comparing it with another SUV, match the model year and trim, then check:
- Whether the specific version has front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and which transmission it uses.
- How much usable cargo space remains with the third row in use.
- Which safety and ADAS equipment is included in the exact trim.
- Whether the quoted price is ex-showroom or on-road, and its date and location.
- Warranty, service access, maintenance coverage and any buyback terms in writing.
No like-for-like competitor measurements or independent driving results are established here, so a general claim that the Meridian is better than another three-row SUV would go beyond the available evidence.
