The Jaguar D-Type Longnose Continuation is a factory-built recreation of the 1956-specification D-Type, part of a 25-car program Jaguar announced in 2018. Jaguar’s published material confirms the program and the Longnose configuration, but it does not establish that a particular car was built or delivered in 2019. Treat “2019” as an unverified descriptor unless the individual car’s records support it.
What is the D-Type Longnose Continuation?
Jaguar Classic announced in February 2018 that it would hand-build 25 new D-Types at Classic Works in Warwickshire. The cars were presented as a continuation of the original production plan: Jaguar said 100 D-Types had been planned in the 1950s and 75 completed. The Continuation cars are new builds, not surviving original-period D-Types.
Jaguar said the cars would be made to original engineering drawings and records, to specifications established by Competitions Manager Lofty England and his team. The manufacturer described them as “all-new, period-correct sports cars”; that is Jaguar’s characterization of its own program, not an independent certification of an individual car. Jaguar’s launch announcement quoted Jaguar Land Rover Classic Director Tim Hannig calling the project a chance to complete the planned production run. Read Jaguar’s 7 February 2018 announcement.
How does Longnose differ from Shortnose?
Jaguar identifies Longnose as the 1956 specification and Shortnose as the 1955 specification. The clearest visual distinction is the Longnose’s extended hood and tail fin behind the driver; the Shortnose has a single-hump rear silhouette. Jaguar also lists the wide-angle cylinder head and quick-change brake calipers among the Longnose prototype’s identifying features.

| Configuration | Period specification | Silhouette | Jaguar-stated engine output |
|---|---|---|---|
| Longnose | 1956 | Extended hood and tail fin behind the driver | 320 bhp |
| Shortnose | 1955 | Single-hump rear | 295 bhp |
These outputs are figures published by Jaguar, not results from an independent test. Jaguar’s current page describes the Continuation’s engine as a 3.4-litre XK straight-six with triple Weber 45 DC03 carburettors. See Jaguar Classic’s D-Type page.
What does “2019” mean for a specific car?
The official sources establish the program’s 2018 announcement and its Longnose specification, but do not identify a Continuation car built or delivered in 2019. They also do not provide a chassis number or the history of an individual car. A title, listing or seller description that calls one “the 2019 Jaguar D-Type Longnose Continuation” is therefore not enough to verify its build year or provenance.

For a specific car, look for a chassis-specific Jaguar Classic record, registration or delivery documentation, or a reliable sale catalogue explicitly tied to that chassis. Keep the distinction clear: Jaguar’s program details describe the series; they do not, by themselves, prove the history of one example.

Jaguar’s current, undated D-Type page lists the Continuation at £1.75 million before local taxes. That is current page information, not a verified 2019 price or evidence of what any individual car sold for.

Jaguar says the original D-Type won three consecutive Le Mans titles, from 1955 through 1957. That record helps explain the model’s significance, but the available program information does not establish that a Continuation car has the same competition history, eligibility or road status as an original. Nor does it provide independent performance testing for the Continuation.
