The Chinese SUV was the JAECOO 7: it topped the UK’s new-car registration rankings in September 2026 with 10,814 registrations, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). That made it the month’s best-selling car, but not the year-to-date leader.
September’s top five best-selling cars
The SMMT’s final figures, published on 5 October 2026, put the JAECOO 7 ahead of the Tesla Model 3 and Ford Puma. These are UK new-car registrations, not used-car sales.

JAECOO UK reported 10,813 registrations for the JAECOO 7, one fewer than the SMMT’s finalized count. The SMMT figure is used for the ranking here. SMMT’s September 2026 figures and JAECOO UK’s release provide the respective counts.
One-month lead, not the year-to-date lead
Through September 2026, the Ford Puma remained the UK’s best-selling model year to date, with 42,926 registrations. The JAECOO 7 was second at 39,474. Its September result is a monthly milestone, not evidence that it led sales across 2026.

Why September needs context
The UK registered 350,536 new cars in September 2026, up 12.0% year on year. September is a major plate-change month and typically accounts for around one in seven annual registrations, so a strong monthly ranking should be read in that seasonal context. The SMMT does not establish a specific reason buyers chose the JAECOO 7.
Battery-electric vehicles made up 28.3% of September registrations, with 99,201 registered. That market-wide figure does not mean the JAECOO 7 is electric: JAECOO UK lists petrol, SHS-H hybrid and SHS-P plug-in hybrid versions. What the ranking does—and does not—show
The result shows that more new JAECOO 7s were registered in the UK than any other individual model during September 2026. It does not establish the model’s reliability, value, driving quality, owner satisfaction or popularity outside the UK. JAECOO UK also reported 22,296 registrations across the OMODA and JAECOO brands combined in September; that is a brand-house total, not the JAECOO 7’s individual count.
For buyers interested in the model, JAECOO UK’s site lists the available powertrains and provides routes to configure the vehicle, find a retailer or arrange a test drive. Its displayed starting price can change, so check the current figure directly with JAECOO UK.
