The most widely reported high-mileage Lamborghini Murciélago is Simon George’s 2004 UK-registered car, later identified as SG54 LAM. Its odometer was reported at just over 258,000 miles in 2017, at 300,000 miles in 2024, and above 495,000 kilometres—about 307,600 miles—in a May 2026 report. That last figure is the latest located report, not a verified reading today, and the available sources do not independently certify a worldwide record.
How many miles are on the highest-mileage Murciélago?
The latest located figure is more than 495,000 kilometres, or approximately 307,600 miles. Racing.nl reported that reading on May 15, 2026, for Simon George’s car, identified as SG54 LAM. It is a secondary report of the odometer, not an independently audited record, and does not establish the car’s reading on October 8, 2026.
Earlier reports provide dated milestones:
| Report date | Reported mileage | What the report says |
|---|---|---|
| April 2017 | Just over 258,000 miles (about 415,000 kilometres) | Car and Driver said the odometer showed this during a recent drive; the same account said the car added another 2,000 miles afterward. Car and Driver and WhichCar. |
| July 2024 | 300,000 miles | The Drive and Hagerty UK reported that George reached the milestone during a trip to Italy. The Drive and Hagerty UK. |
| May 15, 2026 | More than 495,000 kilometres (about 307,600 miles) | Racing.nl reported the figure for SG54 LAM; it does not provide independent record certification. Racing.nl. |
Car and Driver described the Murciélago in 2017 as the highest-mileage modern Lamborghini at that time. That historical description should not be treated as proof of a current global ranking: the sources reviewed do not establish a complete registry or independently verify that no other Murciélago has covered more distance.
Who owns the car, and how did it accumulate the mileage?
The car belongs to Simon George, a UK owner who used it both as a daily driver and in his 6th Gear Experience business. Car and Driver reported that paying customers drove it at track events, alongside George’s own road use. That combination helps explain how one exotic car could accumulate mileage at a rate far beyond a typical collector car.

In a July 2024 interview with The Drive, George described its character this way: “The faster you go, the more it likes it.” He also said, “Anything past 3,000 revs, it’s much happier.” These are the owner’s observations as quoted by The Drive, not manufacturer guidance about how to drive or maintain every Murciélago.
What is known about the car’s repairs and wear?
The published accounts describe an unusually hard-working car with substantial wear and major repairs. Their details refer to different points in its history, so they should not be combined into a single audited maintenance record or lifetime-cost total.

What was reported in 2017
Car and Driver’s account said a customer crashed the car at a driving event in 2012. The subsequent rebuild took four years and cost roughly $115,000, according to that 2017 report. At the time of that article, George said the car had used as many as 14 sets of tires in a year, needed frequent brake-pad changes, and went through brake rotors at around 20,000-mile intervals. The article also reported eight clutches, three top-end rebuilds, and two failures of the camshaft ancillary drive pulley. It said the original engine and gearbox were still in the car then.
What later accounts added
Hagerty UK’s 2024 article likewise described the 2012 crash and a four-year repair, putting the cost at £90,000. It reported that the engine had been replaced once over the years and that clutches had been used at roughly 30,000-mile intervals. Racing.nl’s May 2026 account described later damage after a truck lost a ladder and a subsequent engine replacement costing more than €100,000. These are separate published accounts, with differing currencies and time frames—not a verified, reconciled repair ledger.

Hagerty UK also reproduced a remark George had made to PistonHeads about the economics behind using the car for work: “I only had enough money put away for about eight months, so I knew the car would have to earn its keep.”
Does this prove Murciélagos are reliable?
No. SG54 LAM is evidence that one Murciélago has covered extraordinary distance while being driven extensively and repaired when necessary. It is not a representative reliability study, a manufacturer durability benchmark, or a guide to ordinary maintenance intervals or ownership costs. Its track use, customer driving, crash history, rebuilds, and reported component replacements make it an especially unusual case.

Is it the highest-mileage Murciélago ever?
It is the best-documented high-mileage Murciélago identified in the reports above, and publications have described it as a mileage record holder. But the available reports do not establish a certified worldwide ranking or a current, independently checked odometer reading. The careful answer is therefore that George’s car is widely reported as the highest-mileage example, with the latest located reading exceeding 495,000 kilometres in May 2026.
A different Murciélago sometimes appears in discussions of records: RM Sotheby’s 2015 catalogue described an early car used by Lamborghini for testing and promotion, with over 117,500 kilometres on its odometer at auction. That car’s Nardò speed records are unrelated to the mileage claim for SG54 LAM. RM Sotheby’s catalogue.
