Yes. Boreham Motorworks is building a new, Ford-licensed Escort Mk1 RS—not restoring an original car—and plans a limited run of 150. The production-form car was revealed in 2026, with a reported UK price of £354,000 and first customer handovers expected in early 2027. Those handovers and the production schedule are plans, not confirmed deliveries.
Who is building the new Ford Escort Mk1?
Boreham Motorworks is developing the car under a Ford brand licence. Boreham describes it as a new build rather than a restoration based on a donor Escort. The company calls its approach “Continumod”; the label is Boreham’s own, not a universally settled category for the car. Boreham Motorworks presents the model as a modern interpretation of the Mk1 RS.

The project was announced on 12 December 2024 as a 150-car programme with continuation chassis numbers. At that point, Boreham set a target production start of Q3 2025. That original target does not establish that production began then: later reporting put first customer handovers in early 2027. Autocar reported in August 2026 that the car was nearing completion and that only 10 cars were earmarked for 2027 production.
What will it cost, and how many will be made?
| Question | What the sources say |
|---|---|
| Reported UK price | £354,000, reported by Top Gear on 9 June 2026 and Autocar on 20 August 2026. The currency and market are UK; these reports do not establish a price for other markets. Top Gear · Autocar |
| Earlier launch price | From £295,000 in Boreham’s 12 December 2024 announcement. This is the historical launch figure, not the later reported UK price. Boreham Motorworks announcement |
| Planned total production | 150 cars worldwide in the 2024 announcement; Autocar reported in August 2026 that 150 remained the planned total. Autocar |
| 2027 production allocation | 10 cars earmarked for 2027, according to Autocar on 20 August 2026—not a confirmed count of completed or delivered cars. Autocar |
What are the new Escort’s specifications?
The production-form figures differ slightly between sources and should be kept attributed rather than combined. Boreham’s current website lists 895 kg, 330 PS and a 10,000-rpm headline figure. Top Gear’s 9 June 2026 report gives 895 kg, 2,152 cc and 325 bhp. PS and bhp are different units, so these output figures are not interchangeable. Boreham Motorworks · Top Gear

Boreham’s 12 November 2025 announcement described its TEN-K as a naturally aspirated 2,100 cc inline-four weighing 85 kg and engineered to produce 330 PS at 10,000 rpm. The difference between that engine-announcement displacement and Top Gear’s later 2,152 cc figure is one reason to identify the source and date when quoting specifications. The sources cited here do not establish a full final customer option list. Boreham Motorworks TEN-K announcement
The 2024 launch announcement had described an 800 kg target and a 300 PS 2.1-litre engine option. Those were early project claims; the later production-form figures above supersede them as the most relevant published numbers. Boreham Motorworks, 12 December 2024

How does it connect to the original Escort?
The new car draws on the Escort’s competition and RS history. Boreham’s account traces its roots to Ford’s Boreham competition facility, which developed the Escort Twin Cam in 1967, and follows the performance line through the RS1600, Escort Mexico and RS2000. Ford and Boreham announced a worldwide brand-licence agreement in 2024. Boreham Motorworks history

Top Gear identifies the Group 5 Alan Mann Racing Escort that won the 1968 saloon-car championship as a particular inspiration for the new car. That makes the project more than a revival of the Mk1’s shape: it is explicitly tied to the competition side of the model’s legacy. Top Gear

Is this a restomod, a continuation car or something else?
It is safest to describe it as a new Ford-licensed Escort Mk1 RS build and explain Boreham’s terminology, rather than treating “restomod” or “continuation car” as an uncontested classification. Boreham’s 2024 announcement said the cars would be built new without donor vehicles and use continuation chassis numbers. Top Gear later described the car as all-new and Ford-sanctioned, while noting it was not simply a traditional restomod or continuation car. The terminology varies; the practical distinction established by the sources is that the project is not based on restoring a donor Mk1.

Buyers looking for an Escort Mk1 revival may also be considering restored originals or independently recreated cars. The available reports do not provide a consistent, verified specification set for a direct model-by-model comparison across licensing, road legality, powertrain, warranty, performance and intended use.

Top Gear notes that MST also builds rally-inspired Escorts and says those cars are priced at less than half the Boreham car. That is a qualitative comparison reported by Top Gear, not an independently verified price comparison or a like-for-like specification assessment. Top Gear

The car has been shown in production form, and the reported price and published headline specifications are available. But no named independent test drive or measured real-world performance result is established in the sources cited here. Likewise, early-2027 handovers and the 10-car 2027 allocation are reported expectations, not completed outcomes. A prospective buyer should confirm current specifications, delivery timing, market-specific price and final options directly with Boreham.
John Mitchell, Boreham’s director of Ford Heritage, told Autocar: “We didn’t want a car that anybody would either consider or could capably build themselves,” adding, “It just had to be different.” The remark was reported by Autocar in August 2026. Autocar
