There isn’t enough comparable evidence to rank four snowmobiles currently for sale by top speed. The strongest published comparison is a 2019 New York Shootout, where Arctic Cat’s ZR 9000 Thundercat recorded 103.68 mph in a 1,000-foot run in box-stock form. That is a historical event result—not a verified maximum speed for today’s models.
What the available top-speed test actually ranked
Snow Goer’s report on the 2019 New York Shootout compared three four-stroke turbo sleds: the Arctic Cat ZR 9000 Thundercat, Yamaha Sidewinder SRX LE and Ski-Doo Renegade 900 ACE Turbo. In the event’s 1,000-foot class, the Thundercat ran 8.90 seconds at 103.68 mph in box-stock form. After dealer preparation, it ran 8.83 seconds at 108.69 mph. The latter is not a stock result. Snow Goer’s 2019 shootout report identifies the Yamaha as the second-fastest stock sled at the event, but does not give its numerical speed in the cited report. It says the Ski-Doo’s 9.56- and 9.73-second runs would have won the top two-stroke class; those elapsed times do not establish its top speed.

So the defensible historical ordering is limited: the Thundercat was first and the Sidewinder SRX LE second among stock sleds in that event’s four-stroke turbo class. The published figures do not support assigning exact speeds to the Yamaha or Ski-Doo, or naming a fourth-place sled.

Arctic Cat ZR 9000 Thundercat
Arctic Cat lists a 2027 Thundercat with a 998cc turbo engine and 137-inch track. The U.S. model page gives an MSRP of $23,499 before freight and dealer setup fees; the final selling price is set by the authorized dealer. Its specifications establish that the Thundercat remains a high-performance model, not what its current version will reach in a standardized top-speed test. Arctic Cat’s 2027 Thundercat page also lists electronic power steering and ATAC adjustable suspension.

Yamaha Sidewinder SRX LE EPS
Yamaha’s U.S. product page labels the Sidewinder SRX LE EPS a Final Edition and describes it as “the fastest snowmobile on snow!” That is Yamaha’s promotional claim, not an independently verified current-market ranking. Yamaha lists a starting price of $21,499 plus a $600 destination charge on the page accessed in 2026. The designation Final Edition and the listed price do not establish how many units remain available from dealers. Yamaha’s U.S. Sidewinder SRX LE EPS page provides the company’s model and claim details. Ski-Doo performance context
Ski-Doo says its Rotax 850 E-TEC Turbo R with water injection produces 180 hp, based on internal dyno testing under optimal conditions. That figure describes engine output, not a measured top speed. Ski-Doo’s Rotax engine page calls it the company’s most powerful factory-built two-stroke snowmobile engine.

For the 2026 MXZ Adrenaline, Ski-Doo lists the 850 E-TEC at 165 hp and the 600R E-TEC at 125 hp, with 129- or 137-inch track lengths. Why published snowmobile top speeds are hard to compare
A speed from a short event course is not automatically equivalent to a maximum-speed claim, speedometer reading or result from a different sled and setup. Any useful ranking needs the measurement method, course length and conditions, plus a precise account of what “stock” means.

- Measurement: Radar or GPS speed is different from a speedometer indication. The straight-line distance and snow and weather conditions affect what a run can show.
- Configuration: Factory stock, dealer-prepped and modified machines are different comparisons. Studs, gearing, calibration, track and rider weight can all affect a result.
- Availability: A current model, a limited Final Edition and leftover dealer inventory are not the same buying situation. Availability also depends on geography and model year.
- Performance measure: Horsepower and elapsed time can describe engine output or acceleration; neither is a substitute for a measured top speed.
Because no independent current test in the cited evidence supplies four comparable speed measurements and a consistent stock definition, a four-place current buying ranking would imply more certainty than the results support.

- Confirm the model year and region, and whether the sled is actually available through a local dealer.
- Find out whether the number is measured by GPS or radar, or merely indicated on the sled’s speedometer.
- Check the test distance and conditions; a 1,000-foot run describes that event format, not every possible top-speed run.
- Verify whether the sled was box-stock, dealer-prepped or modified, and whether the reported figure is speed or elapsed time.
Arctic Cat warns on its Thundercat page: “WARNING: Arctic Cat snowmobiles can be hazardous to operate.” A high-speed claim is not a reason to test a sled on a public trail or without appropriate training and protective equipment. Arctic Cat’s warning.
