How the Carcamp connected to the car
In Darren Quick’s September 12, 2009 New Atlas report, the Carcamp’s housing unit was coupled to a standard Opel Astra using two “sideways” towbars. The unit was not welded to the car; the article says it could be left behind by removing a few screws, so the Astra could be used separately.
This arrangement made the car and living unit function as an integrated combination while travelling, but kept them separable. The report does not provide engineering drawings, connection specifications, or instructions for reproducing the setup.
What Heku claimed about stability and speed
New Atlas reported Heku’s claim that the close-fitting, flush aerodynamic profile improved stability. Heku also said the housing unit’s rear axle sat close to the car’s rear, producing handling like that of a large sedan. The article gives no independent road test or measured stability study to verify those assertions.
The same report attributed a safe travel range of 120–140 km/h (75–87 mph) to Heku. That is a company claim reported in 2009, not an independently established speed recommendation. It should not be used as guidance for driving a present-day vehicle combination.

New Atlas listed Carcamp configurations from 5 m to 6.65 m long and 2.65 m to 2.99 m high. The report’s listed prices and engine figures were:

What the 2009 tax and insurance claim means
New Atlas also reported Heku’s assertion that the combined Carcamp counted as one entity and therefore should not incur additional tax or insurance costs. This was a company claim in a 2009 article, not official guidance or a statement of current law. Registration, tax, and insurance treatment depends on the applicable rules and circumstances; the report does not establish the status of any present-day vehicle combination.

Is the Carcamp available today?
The detailed report establishes what Heku’s design was said to be in 2009, but does not establish whether Heku still produces, sells, or supports it, or whether used units or replacement parts can be found. A 2017 caravan forum post refers back to the 2009 item but supplies no reliable current product information.
Anyone considering a similar vehicle setup would need current confirmation from relevant manufacturers and authorities about compatibility, connection engineering, registration, insurance, road legality, and performance in their jurisdiction. The historical article is not a practical guide to building or operating such a combination.
