The North American Volkswagen ID. Buzz is a longer-wheelbase electric passenger van, not a factory camper conversion. Volkswagen added 250 mm to the wheelbase of the long version unveiled in 2023, making space for a third row and a larger battery with 85 kWh of net capacity. Its “American proportions” are therefore a practical packaging choice as much as a visual one.
What “American proportions” means
Volkswagen unveiled the long-wheelbase ID. Buzz in June 2023 for North America and Europe, calling it the return of the VW Bus to North America in an electric, rear-wheel-drive configuration. Volkswagen said the wheelbase grew by 250 mm to accommodate both a third row and the larger 85 kWh net battery. Those are the company’s stated reasons for the longer layout—not evidence that the change was made solely to suit American tastes. Volkswagen’s June 2023 announcement also quotes Pablo Di Si, then president and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, calling it “the biggest, most spacious and most versatile ID. Buzz we have ever built”; that is a manufacturer’s promotional description, not an independent comparison.
For a trim-specific U.S. dimension, Volkswagen’s technical-data sheet lists a 127.5-inch wheelbase for the 2025 Pro S Plus. Do not treat that trim’s measurement as a universal figure for every ID. Buzz configuration. Volkswagen’s U.S. model page describes the 2025 vehicle.
Does the ID. Buzz have a third row?
Yes. The long-wheelbase layout adds a third row, giving the ID. Buzz its three-row passenger-van configuration. The extra row also matters when interpreting cargo figures: Volkswagen says the 2025 U.S. model can provide up to 145.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the second row folded and the third row removed. That maximum is not the cargo space available with all seats in place.

Is the ID. Buzz a camper van?
Not on the evidence available for the U.S. model described here. Volkswagen presents it as a passenger vehicle, and its nostalgic bus styling—including the panoramic glass roof—may evoke earlier VW Bus and Samba models. The available specifications do not establish a factory camper conversion, bed, or cooking equipment. “Camper bus” works as a cultural reference, but buyers should not mistake it for included camping equipment.
What Volkswagen says about price and charging
On its U.S. page for the 2025 ID. Buzz, Volkswagen lists a starting MSRP of $59,995. Prices can change, and the page’s figure is a manufacturer-listed starting price, not an independent transaction-price survey.

Volkswagen also claims that a 10% to 80% charge takes 26 minutes using 200 kW DC fast charging. This is the manufacturer’s stated charging time, not an independent test result; actual charging time can depend on conditions and the charging equipment. Volkswagen says charging hardware is not included, so confirm what equipment comes with a specific vehicle before planning home charging.
