No confirmed 2026 Chevrolet Camaro electric SUV exists. The Camaro ended after the 2024 model year, and the earlier electric-fastback theory was never announced by Chevrolet. The latest April 2026 reports instead point to a possible rear-drive Camaro replacement entering production in late 2027 as a likely 2028 model—and reportedly not being fully electric.
That future vehicle remains unconfirmed. Chevrolet has not announced its name, body style, powertrain, specifications, price, or launch date.
The short answer
No confirmed 2026 Chevrolet Camaro electric SUV exists. Chevrolet ended the sixth-generation Camaro after the 2024 model year, and GM’s current official EV materials do not list a Camaro EV. Earlier reports and speculative previews envisioned a Camaro-branded electric fastback crossover arriving around 2026 or 2027, but Chevrolet never confirmed that vehicle.
The latest reporting, published in April 2026, points in a different direction: GM has reportedly approved a Camaro replacement for production in late 2027 at Lansing Grand River Assembly in Michigan, potentially making it a 2028 model. Those reports describe a rear-drive vehicle on an updated Alpha architecture and say it is not expected to be fully electric. However, Chevrolet has not publicly confirmed the replacement, its name, body style, powertrain, specifications, or timing.

How the Camaro reached this point
On March 22, 2023, Chevrolet announced that the sixth-generation Camaro would retire after the 2024 model year. Final production was scheduled for January 2024 at Lansing Grand River Assembly. Chevrolet’s announcement described the end of that generation; it did not announce a replacement vehicle.
That distinction matters because “the Camaro is ending” and “the Camaro is gone forever” are not the same statement. The retirement announcement ended the existing sixth-generation car, but Chevrolet did not commit to a future body style or powertrain. A later Camaro information page likewise identifies the 2024 Camaro as the final model year of the sixth generation. Chevrolet’s retirement announcement is the primary source for the discontinuation, while the later model-year summary helps clarify why a 2026 Camaro should not be treated as an existing production model.
Why people expected a 2026 electric Camaro SUV
After the sixth-generation car’s retirement, automotive reporting explored ways Chevrolet might revive the nameplate without simply replacing the same traditional two-door coupe. One theory was a carlike electric crossover with a fastback roofline, positioned against vehicles such as the Ford Mustang Mach-E.
MotorTrend reported that a future Camaro EV could arrive around 2026, or potentially as a 2027 model. Its later preview imagined a fastback SUV with possible single-motor rear-wheel-drive, dual-motor all-wheel-drive, and high-output SS versions. Those were projections intended to explore what such a vehicle might look like; they were not Chevrolet specifications.

Chevrolet’s official EV portfolio has been concentrated heavily in SUVs and trucks, including the Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Silverado EV, and Bolt. That product strategy explains why an electric Camaro crossover seemed possible, but it does not prove that GM approved one. GM’s official EV portfolio materials do not list a Camaro EV.
In other words, the electric-SUV story combined a real product trend with an unconfirmed nameplate theory. It was reasonable speculation, not a product announcement.

What the newest Camaro replacement reports say
The picture changed with reports published on April 7 and April 8, 2026.
GM Authority reported on April 7 that GM had green-lit a Camaro replacement planned for late-2027 production at Lansing Grand River Assembly in Michigan. That timing would normally point to a 2028 model-year vehicle rather than a 2026 model.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesA follow-up report from GM Authority said the replacement is not expected to be fully electric. That April 8 report also associated the vehicle with the Alpha 2 architecture and said initial production was expected during calendar year 2027.
Car and Driver, citing Automotive News reporting, described a next-generation Camaro sports car being developed alongside future Cadillac and Buick sedans on an updated Alpha architecture. Its report placed production in fall 2027 at Lansing.
These reports are more specific than the earlier electric-SUV projections, but they are still reports based on sources rather than a public Chevrolet announcement. MotorTrend reported that Chevrolet declined to comment on speculative future-product reports. That means the responsible wording is “reportedly approved” or “reported to be in development,” not “Chevrolet has unveiled” or “Chevrolet has confirmed.”
What Alpha 2 could tell us—and what it cannot
MotorTrend describes Alpha 2 as a compact-to-midsize rear-drive architecture with front-engine and rear-wheel-drive characteristics. If the reported Camaro replacement does use that architecture, it would make a conventional sports car, liftback, or sedan more plausible than the previously imagined battery-electric crossover.

That is an architectural inference, not a confirmed description of the production vehicle. A rear-drive platform does not by itself establish whether the vehicle will use a gasoline engine, a hybrid system, or some other powertrain. Similarly, the report that it will not be fully electric does not tell us whether it will be a traditional internal-combustion car or a hybrid.
The most defensible conclusion is narrower: the newest reporting moves the Camaro story away from a confirmed—or even currently reported—2026 all-electric SUV and toward an unconfirmed rear-drive replacement that could arrive for 2028.
What remains unknown
No reliable public source currently establishes the final production specification. The following details should not be presented as facts:
- Body style: It could be a two-door sports car, a four-door sedan, a liftback, or another fastback design. The word “SUV” comes primarily from earlier speculation.
- Name: Reports refer to a Camaro replacement, but Chevrolet has not confirmed that the production vehicle will retain the Camaro name.
- Powertrain: The latest reporting says it is not expected to be fully electric, but engine type, cylinder count, displacement, hybrid assistance, and fuel requirements are unknown.
- Transmission: There is no confirmed manual or automatic transmission information.
- Performance: Horsepower, acceleration, top speed, braking hardware, suspension tuning, and whether an SS version will exist are all unconfirmed.
- Battery and charging: No battery capacity, electric range, charging rate, or battery chemistry has been established.
- Price and trims: Chevrolet has not released pricing, trim names, equipment levels, or an order guide.
- Release date: Late-2027 production and a possible 2028 model year come from automotive reporting, not a Chevrolet launch schedule.
That also means projected details from earlier Camaro EV previews—such as single- or dual-motor layouts, all-wheel drive, or an SS performance variant—should remain labeled as hypothetical. They are useful for understanding the rumor’s evolution, but they are not a preview of an approved Chevrolet specification.

Does a Camaro SUV still make sense?
There is a clear business case for moving a performance nameplate toward a crossover. SUVs offer more cabin and cargo flexibility, and Chevrolet’s EV strategy already emphasizes SUV and truck products. An electric fastback could also give GM a way to preserve the Camaro’s performance image while adapting it to a changing market.
But the Camaro name carries a different expectation from a typical family crossover. The newest reports’ references to a sports car and rear-drive Alpha architecture suggest that GM may be attempting to preserve more of the nameplate’s driving character than the electric-SUV theory implied. Whether that means a low-slung coupe, a four-door liftback, or something else is not known.

Until the body style is officially shown, renderings and speculative illustrations should not be mistaken for leaked Chevrolet images. The same caution applies to claims that the vehicle will directly share motors, batteries, or performance hardware with the Blazer EV or the Mustang Mach-E. No such production specifications have been confirmed in the supplied reporting.
What Camaro shoppers and owners should do now
If you are shopping for a “2026 Camaro”
Treat any listing or article using “2026 Camaro” as a rumor, rendering, used-car mislabel, or speculative forecast unless it provides a genuine Chevrolet announcement and a verifiable vehicle identification or ordering path. The last confirmed sixth-generation model year was 2024.

Parts, trim, engine, and transmission compatibility must be checked by model year and configuration; a future Camaro replacement should not be assumed to share components with any earlier car.
If you want to track the possible revival
Look for three kinds of evidence before treating the story as official:
- A Chevrolet or GM press release naming the vehicle and confirming its production intent.
- An official Chevrolet product page, ordering guide, or pricing announcement that identifies the model year, trims, and powertrain.
- Definitive production or launch information that resolves the body style, assembly timing, and market availability.
Until those appear, the April 2026 reports are the strongest available indication of a possible return, but they do not settle what the next Camaro will be.
For readers who want a tangible piece of Camaro history while waiting for GM’s next move, a Chevrolet Camaro model car or die-cast collectible is a more honest purchase than a listing that claims to be a 2026 electric SUV. Availability, licensing, seller, and price can vary, so treat it as a collectible—not evidence that the future vehicle has launched.
Bottom line
The headline “2026 Chevrolet Camaro electric SUV” describes an earlier possibility, not a confirmed vehicle. Chevrolet ended the existing Camaro after the 2024 model year. The latest April 2026 reports instead point to a possible Camaro replacement entering production in late 2027 as a likely 2028 model, using a rear-drive Alpha 2-based architecture and not being fully electric. GM and Chevrolet have not publicly confirmed even those reported plans, so the next Camaro’s body style, powertrain, name, specifications, price, and launch date remain open questions.
