The Bocklet Dakar U685 is a specialist expedition motorhome built on a Mercedes-Benz U4000 chassis. Period coverage put an example at €250,000 (US$315,000), but that is a historical reported figure—not a current price or quote. Bocklet’s official listing gives the model’s dimensions and two gross-vehicle-weight options; a separate period article describes equipment fitted to one example.
What is the Bocklet Dakar U685?
Bocklet places the U685 in its DAKAR expedition-vehicle range and identifies its base chassis as the Mercedes-Benz U4000. New Atlas’s period coverage also describes the vehicle as U4000-based. This is a purpose-built motorhome, not simply a production van with a camper conversion.
The name matters when checking specifications: Mercedes-Benz Trucks later covered a different vehicle, the Dakar U690. Its dimensions should not be used as specifications for the U685.

The listing presents two gross-vehicle-weight alternatives; it does not establish which applies to a particular vehicle. Buyers should verify the specific vehicle’s documents and build before drawing conclusions about registration, licensing, payload, or permitted loading. Gross vehicle weight is not the same as usable payload: the latter depends on the completed vehicle and its travel load.
What did the reported €250,000 U685 include?
New Atlas reported a price of €250,000 (US$315,000) in period coverage. Mercedes-Fans.de likewise framed its featured U685 as a quarter-million-euro vehicle. Neither figure is a current quotation, and the reporting does not establish whether the amount was a base price or the price of a fully specified build.

Mercedes-Fans.de described this example’s living-area equipment as:
- Two belted seats
- A rear bed measuring 2,000 × 1,350 mm
- A 300-liter fresh-water tank and a 200-liter waste-water tank
- A 260 W solar system
- A 1.2 kW inverter
Those details belong to the reported example, not necessarily every U685. Bocklet’s model-range listing does not provide a complete standard or optional equipment schedule, so a particular vehicle’s build sheet is essential for confirming its layout and equipment.

The later Mercedes-Benz Trucks article is about the Dakar U690, not the U685. It gives the U690’s length as 6.87 m and width as 2.34 m. Those measurements are not U685 specifications; use Bocklet’s U685 figures above when identifying that model.
