The best low-cost used EV depends on what “life left” means for your trips: a healthy battery, enough realistic range, warranty coverage and a car in sound condition. For many US buyers, the Chevrolet Bolt EV or Bolt EUV is a strong value; the Hyundai Kona Electric offers a crossover alternative, while the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 suit buyers who can spend more or need different space and charging capabilities. Model reputation and new-car range estimates cannot tell you the condition of a specific used car.
Which cheap used EVs are worth considering?
Edmunds’ April 2026 US roundup, distributed by the Associated Press, reports average prices for selected model years—not guaranteed asking prices or current quotes. Use them as rough market context, then check local listings and any incentives you may qualify for. Its reported EPA ranges are estimates for the cars when new, not the range a used example will deliver today.
| Model | Model years and reported average price | EPA-estimated range when new | What to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chevrolet Bolt EV / Bolt EUV | 2021–2023; about $18,000 average, per Edmunds’ April 2026 roundup | Bolt EV: up to 259 miles; Bolt EUV: up to 247 miles | Leading bargain options. Edmunds suggests considering 2022 or 2023 examples if budget allows for updated styling and technology. Best suited to buyers who can charge at home; public charging can be slow. |
| Hyundai Kona Electric | 2022–2024; about $19,000 average, per Edmunds’ April 2026 roundup | More than 250 miles | A crossover alternative. Edmunds says the 2022–2023 version may offer better value than the 2024 redesign, based on its testing. |
| Tesla Model 3 | 2022–2024; about $26,000 average, per Edmunds’ April 2026 roundup | Not stated in the cited roundup | A sedan pick with broad used availability and access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, according to Edmunds. |
| Hyundai Ioniq 5 | 2022–2024; about $25,000 average, per Edmunds’ April 2026 roundup | Varies by version; Standard Range has a lower new EPA-estimated range than other versions | A roomier, higher-priced choice. Edmunds highlights comfort, quick charging and interior usability. |
See Edmunds’ used-EV roundup distributed by AP for its model details. A lower purchase price is not automatically the best value: compare the car’s condition and remaining range with your routine, charging options and space needs.
How much range does a used electric car lose?
Battery capacity generally declines over time, but the rate for a vehicle depends on its history and use. A 2024 Edmunds/AP used-EV guide reports that a Geotab analysis of 6,300 EVs found average battery degradation of 2.3% per year in that tracked fleet. That is a fleet average, not a forecast or guarantee for an individual car.
#1 Best Overall
The guide illustrates the rate with a 2020 Hyundai Ioniq EV that had a maximum range of 170 miles when new: applying the fleet average would put it at about 150 miles after five years. That is an example, not a measured result for every Ioniq or a substitute for a battery-health check. Actual driving range also changes with temperature, heating or air-conditioning use, driving style and terrain.
For perspective, the same guide reports that Americans drive about 37 miles per day on average, citing the Federal Highway Administration. A lower-range EV may be adequate for a commuter, but a national daily average says little about your own longest regular trip, cold-weather needs or occasional journeys. Estimate those needs first, then assess whether a particular car can meet them with a practical reserve.

How can you check a used EV battery before buying?
Get a battery-health report or qualified inspection
Ask for a documented battery state-of-health (SoH) report, such as one produced from an OBD diagnostic tool or vehicle telematics, where available. Autoblog’s September 2025 buyer guide recommends checking SoH this way. If the seller cannot provide a credible report, ask an independent mechanic or EV-qualified inspection service whether it can assess the battery and explain the result for that model.

Do not treat the dashboard’s predicted range after charging as a definitive capacity test: the estimate can reflect recent driving and conditions as well as battery capacity. Nor can odometer mileage alone establish battery health. Autoblog’s used-electric-car buyer guide discusses SoH checks and other buying considerations.
Compare the result with your actual trips
Use the inspection result alongside a realistic range estimate for the weather and driving you expect. Consider the coldest conditions you regularly encounter, highway speeds, hills and climate-control use. If your trips occasionally exceed your normal commute, make sure charging stops and charging access work for those trips too.

Is a used Chevy Bolt still worth buying?
It can be a compelling low-cost choice if its individual condition checks out and you can charge at home. Edmunds names the Bolt EV and EUV leading bargain options, with reported average prices around $18,000 for 2021–2023 examples in its April 2026 US roundup. The new-car EPA estimates—up to 259 miles for the EV and 247 miles for the EUV—are useful for understanding the models, but do not establish a used car’s present range.
The key trade-off is charging convenience: Edmunds says public charging can be slow, so the Bolt fits best when regular home charging is available. On a longer trip, check the specific car’s charging capability and whether the routes and charging network suit your plans before buying.

Battery warranties vary by model, year and market; terms may include a capacity-retention threshold. Before making an offer, ask the manufacturer or dealer to confirm coverage by VIN and check the original warranty booklet. Verify how much time and mileage remain, whether the warranty transfers to you, and whether a prior battery repair or replacement affects the coverage period.

An ICCT white paper compares US-version manufacturer terms as they stood in 2021. Treat it as historical context, not a current warranty chart. Its cited test result of a 23%–27% capacity drop in 2012 Nissan Leafs at 50,000 miles is specific to those cars and tests; it should not be generalized to newer Leafs or other EVs. Read the ICCT white paper on EV battery warranty coverage.
Check the individual car rather than assuming a model-wide recall or service history. Before purchase:
- Check the VIN for open recalls and confirm completion with an authoritative source.
- Review service and collision history.
- Confirm title status.
- Arrange an independent inspection, including checks appropriate to an EV.
Will home charging work for your situation?
A 240-volt home charging setup is generally quicker and more convenient than relying on a standard 120-volt cord or public chargers, according to the 2024 Edmunds/AP guide. That guide cited $200–$600 as a typical price for a new charger at the time of publication. It is a dated equipment figure, not a current installed quote: electrical work, parking arrangements, utility rates, local rules and connector compatibility can change the total substantially.
Best Value
- 2 Modes of Operation: There are two ways to operate the 12V electric stroller, which can be operated by the child himself by manipulating the steering wheel and foot pedal. If the child can not drive, the parents can control the direction and speed by remote control

- Age and Weight Capacity: This children's car has a maximum weight capacity of 55Lbs, suitable for children from 3 to 5 years old, with excellent reliability of use
Check whether you have suitable parking and electrical service, what installation would involve, and whether the charger is compatible with the car. A home charger is not essential for every buyer, but depending on public charging alone can be inconvenient—particularly with a Bolt, whose public charging Edmunds describes as slow.
How to choose between the shortlist
No single model wins for every buyer. Compare cars on the factors that determine your actual cost and usability:
