For budget context, Kelley Blue Book’s list of convertibles under $10,000 includes a 2010 Miata. In iSeeCars’ 2026 budget rankings, the 2023 Miata leads its under-$30,000 category. Neither result means every example will be available at that price locally or in comparable condition.
Ford Mustang Convertible: four-seat muscle-car character
The Mustang brings familiar muscle-car styling and four seats, making it a different proposition from the Miata. Kelley Blue Book describes the 2011 V6 as a possible choice under $10,000 and notes that finding a V8 GT at that price may mean looking at an older model. - Review records and history. Look for consistent service documentation and investigate unexplained gaps, damage history, or ownership details that need clarification.
- Inspect the car inside and out. Check the body, cabin, tires, and roof material for visible wear or damage. Look closely at seals and areas where water intrusion might be apparent.
- Operate the roof more than once, if conditions permit. Watch and listen for hesitation, unusual noises, or incomplete movement. Confirm that it closes and latches as expected.
- Test-drive in realistic conditions. Assess visibility, comfort, ride noise, handling, and—if relevant—rear-seat access with the roof up and down where practical.
- Arrange a pre-purchase inspection. Have an independent professional assess the car before you commit, and ask them to pay attention to the convertible top and its mechanism.
- Get insurance and repair estimates for that car. Convertible insurance can be higher in some cases, according to CarMax, but actual premiums and repair costs depend on the car, its condition, your location, and your policy.
