The Best Electric Luxury Cars to Consider if You Don’t Like the Jaguar Type 01’s Styling

The Porsche Taycan, Lucid Air, Audi e-tron GT and BMW i7 offer distinct alternatives to Jaguar Type 01 styling, from performance sedans to a full-size flagship.

If Jaguar Type 01’s low roofline, long bonnet and sleek grand-touring silhouette are not your style, start with four alternatives that take luxury EV design in different directions: the Porsche Taycan for a performance-sedan feel, the Lucid Air for range, the Audi e-tron GT for a sleek performance look, and the BMW i7 for full-size flagship comfort. They are not direct substitutes in character or size, so the right choice depends on what you want instead.

Jaguar announced the all-electric Type 01 on October 6, 2026. Orders are expected to open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries expected in the second half of 2027. For now, it is a newly announced future car, not a model with established owner experience or independent road-test results. Jaguar’s announcement describes the car as a luxury four-door GT and claims more than 1,000 PS, 400 miles of EPA range and 200 miles of added range in 13 minutes using 350 kW charging; those are manufacturer claims, not independently verified results.

How to choose an alternative to the Jaguar Type 01

First identify what bothers you about the Type 01’s shape. Jaguar emphasizes a low roofline, long bonnet and sleek silhouette, with design lineage tied to the E-type and XJS. If you want a more conventional sedan profile, the Air or i7 may feel closer to what you have in mind. If you still want a dramatic, low-slung performance car but prefer another design vocabulary, look at the Taycan or e-tron GT. Jaguar’s Type 01 announcement sets out its design description and launch timing.

That distinction matters because “I don’t like the styling” can mean different things. You might dislike the specific Jaguar references, or you might want a taller roof, a more conventional sedan shape, or the visual presence of a large flagship. The four alternatives here cover those different directions; none is presented as objectively better-looking. Decide which proportions and everyday role suit you, then use price and range figures to narrow the choices.

EVIQO Level 2 EV Charger J1772 48A - Hardwired 240V Wall Charging Station
  • WORKS WITH EVERY NON-TESLA EV: Standard J1772 connector plugs straight into Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Rivian, Lucid and every other EV or plug-in hybrid sold with a J1772 port - no adapter needed. Tesla drivers can charge too, using the J1772 adapter that comes with the car. The extra-long 25 ft cable easily reaches across a garage or driveway.
  • HARDWIRED - PROFESSIONAL INSTALL: This Level 2 charger is hardwired (not plug-in), so a licensed electrician installs it per National Electrical Code. It delivers up to 48A on a dedicated 60A, 240V circuit - enough to charge most EVs fully overnight. Want more speed? You can set DIP switches 4 and 5 to unlock 50A on a dedicated 70A circuit. Before ordering, check your car's port type and that your electrical panel can support the circuit.
  • CONTROL FROM YOUR PHONE: A stronger built-in antenna keeps the charger online even in a garage or basement. Use the free app to start and stop charging, set the charging speed (6-48A), get reminders, and track how much energy and money each charge uses. Requires a 2.4 GHz home WiFi network.
  • SAFETY-CERTIFIED & WEATHERPROOF: Independently tested and certified (UL, ETL, FCC, Energy Star). A fully sealed IP66 / NEMA 4 housing stands up to rain, snow, heat and dust indoors or out, and internal steel shielding protects the electronics for years of reliable use.
  • GLOW-IN-THE-DARK HOLSTER: The included high-visibility holster glows in the dark so you can find and dock the plug easily at night. Holds the connector securely when not in use.

There is also a timing question. Type 01 is a future purchase: Jaguar says orders open in early 2027 and first customer deliveries are expected in the second half of that year. It has not yet accumulated independent road-test results or established customer ownership experience. The alternatives below are listed as 2026 models in the comparison source, but those listings do not guarantee local inventory or availability. If you are shopping now, verify what is actually offered in your area; if you are willing to wait for Type 01, compare it again once independent evaluations and exact purchase details are available.

The comparison below uses U.S. 2026 model-year figures listed by Car and Driver. Prices are published starting prices, not guaranteed transaction prices; ranges are EPA-estimated figures as listed by that source where identified. They do not guarantee the same real-world range in every configuration or driving condition. Lucid’s own U.S. page currently gives a different price and range context, so its figures are shown separately rather than blended with Car and Driver’s. Confirm the exact trim, current local pricing and availability before making a purchase decision.

Model Published starting price Published range What it prioritizes
2026 Porsche Taycan $108,050 251–293 miles, EPA-estimated Performance-sedan driving character
2026 Lucid Air $72,400 420–480 miles, EPA-estimated Range and an elegant, spacious sedan format
2026 Audi e-tron GT $129,095 278–300 miles, estimated Quick, nimble performance-sedan character
2026 BMW i7 $107,250 285–301 miles, estimated Full-size 7 Series flagship luxury with electric propulsion

Figures in this table are from Car and Driver’s luxury EV ranking, which describes its ranking as informed by instrumented testing and editorial impressions across about 200 data points, including acceleration, handling, comfort, cargo space, efficiency, value and driving enjoyment. That makes it a useful comparative source, not a universal verdict on what every buyer will prefer.

1. Porsche Taycan: choose it for performance-sedan character

The Taycan is the clearest fit if you want a luxury EV that puts driving experience ahead of maximizing range. Car and Driver describes it in those terms and lists the 2026 model at $108,050 to start, with 251–293 miles of EPA-estimated range. That is the shortest range band among the four cars here, so think carefully about your regular trips and charging access if you often travel long distances.

In styling terms, the Taycan keeps a low, sporty stance, but it is a distinct alternative rather than a way to get a high-roof or upright sedan. Consider it if your objection is specifically to Jaguar’s design treatment or heritage cues, not to the general proportions of a low performance car. The figures are listed for the 2026 model by Car and Driver; verify the exact build and current dealer offers.

The useful question is not simply whether the Taycan is “better” than Type 01. It is whether you still want a performance-led, visually low car after rejecting Jaguar’s styling. If the answer is yes, the Taycan belongs on your test-drive list. If the low roof and sporty stance are the problem, its different design vocabulary may not be enough of a change. In that case, compare the sedan formats of the Lucid Air and BMW i7 instead.

Its listed range is also a trade-off, not a verdict on whether it can meet your needs. A buyer who mainly drives shorter, familiar routes may weigh driving character more heavily than a shopper who routinely makes long journeys. Before choosing, consider the trips you actually make and where you can charge, rather than assuming that a published estimate guarantees a particular distance in your own use. The range band spans 42 miles, so make sure you compare the exact version you are considering rather than treating the model name as one uniform configuration.

  • Safe & Durable: Rely on this UL-certified EV charger for safe home charging. It can be installed indoors or outdoors by an electrician and includes a cold-resistant cable.
  • Fast & Powerful: This EV charger charges 9× faster than a 120V outlet, delivering up to 45 mi/hr., dependent upon your vehicle. It features a J1772 connector for all non-Tesla EVs and requires a 20A or 80A circuit. For Tesla EVs, this will require an adapter.

2. Lucid Air: choose it for range and a spacious sedan format

The Lucid Air is the range-oriented option in this shortlist. Car and Driver lists the 2026 Air from $72,400 and gives it a 420–480-mile EPA-estimated range. Lucid’s U.S. manufacturer page separately advertises Air trims from $70,900 and projected range up to 512 miles, saying the figure varies by trim. These are not interchangeable figures: one is Car and Driver’s listing and the other is Lucid’s current manufacturer-page claim. Check the precise trim and its range when configuring a car.

The Air also offers a different visual balance from a low-roof grand tourer: it is an elegant, spacious sedan rather than a dramatic GT. That makes it worth considering if you want luxury-car presence and long-distance range without choosing the Type 01’s particular silhouette. Consult Car and Driver’s ranking and Lucid’s U.S. Air page for their respective figures. Prices and availability can change, and the manufacturer notes range varies by trim.

For a buyer comparing headline numbers, the important detail is that the two range figures have different contexts. Car and Driver lists a 420–480-mile EPA-estimated band for the 2026 Air. Lucid’s page advertises up to 512 projected miles, with the result depending on trim. Do not add the numbers together, treat them as equivalent ratings, or assume every Air can achieve the manufacturer’s maximum. Identify the exact trim you would buy and confirm the figure that applies to it.

The listed starting price is also not a quote for a particular car. Car and Driver’s $72,400 starting price and Lucid’s $70,900 advertised starting figure are separate source-page prices; neither establishes what a specific buyer will pay after selecting a trim or checking local offers. The figures make the Air worth examining if both range and price are priorities, but they do not establish that it will be the least expensive option in every market or transaction.

Its sedan format may appeal if you want an elegant, spacious-feeling alternative without the Type 01’s long-bonnet grand-tourer emphasis. Still, Car and Driver’s comparison does not give consistent cabin measurements across the shortlist. Treat “spacious” as a broad description, not a measured claim that it offers a specific amount more room than a rival. Check the front and rear seating and luggage access yourself, particularly if those are central to your purchase.

3. Audi e-tron GT: choose it for a sleek performance alternative

The Audi e-tron GT occupies the performance-oriented end of the list. Car and Driver describes it as quick and nimble, with a 2026 starting price of $129,095 and estimated range of 278–300 miles. It suits someone who still wants a visually sleek, athletic sedan but prefers Audi’s design language to Jaguar’s.

Its range sits above the Taycan’s listed band and below the Air’s, but the published figures alone do not establish which car will suit your driving better. Consider your usual routes, charging opportunities and preferred cabin experience alongside the number. Car and Driver’s model-year listing is at its luxury EV ranking; confirm current trim pricing and local availability with a seller.

EVIQO Level 2 EV Charger J1772 40A NEMA 14-50 - 240V Wall Charging Station
  • WORKS WITH EVERY NON-TESLA EV: Standard J1772 connector plugs straight into Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Rivian, Lucid and every other EV or plug-in hybrid sold with a J1772 port - no adapter needed. Tesla drivers can charge too, using the J1772 adapter that comes with the car.
  • PLUG IN, NO HARDWIRING: Level 2 charger delivers up to 40A to fully charge most EVs overnight. Plugs into a 240V, 4-prong NEMA 14-50 outlet (the RV/range type - NOT a dryer outlet) on a dedicated 50A circuit. The extra-long 25 ft cable easily reaches across a garage or driveway. Before ordering, check your car's port type and that you have the right outlet.
  • CONTROL & SAVE FROM YOUR PHONE: A stronger built-in antenna keeps the charger online even in a garage or basement. Use the free app to start/stop charging, set speed (6-40A), get reminders, and track energy use and cost. Schedule off-peak overnight charging to cut your electric bill. Requires 2.4 GHz WiFi.

Styling is the key qualification. The e-tron GT is a sleek performance-oriented sedan, so it may be a good alternative if you like a low, athletic look but do not want Jaguar’s particular interpretation. It is not the obvious answer if your objection is to the broad idea of a low-roof, visually dramatic car. Be specific about what you want to change: the brand’s design vocabulary, the body proportions, or the car’s overall presence.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The listed range band is 278–300 miles, a 22-mile span across the source’s presentation. As with the other estimates, that is a comparison point rather than a promise for every configuration or drive. Car and Driver’s listing does not provide a trim-by-trim breakdown here, so ask the seller to confirm the range figure and price for the configuration you are actually considering. In particular, do not compare a starting price for one model with an optioned price for another and assume the difference is a like-for-like cost comparison.

At $129,095 to start in Car and Driver’s 2026 listing, it has the highest published starting price in this four-car table. That is a useful budgeting signal, not a prediction of what a dealer will charge or a judgment about value for a specific buyer. If the e-tron GT’s styling and driving character are what you want, compare the exact vehicle’s current local offer and equipment with the other cars you are cross-shopping.

4. BMW i7: choose it for a full-size flagship sedan

If what you want is a more traditional large luxury sedan rather than another low-slung GT, the BMW i7 is the most distinct alternative here. It is an electric version of the 7 Series flagship sedan. Car and Driver lists the 2026 i7 from $107,250, with an estimated range of 285–301 miles.

The i7’s appeal is its full-size flagship role, not a claim that it matches the Type 01’s proportions or performance focus. Car and Driver’s comparison does not give consistent cabin measurements across these four cars, so use the body-style distinction as a guide and assess the actual rear-seat, luggage and parking needs in person. See Car and Driver’s ranking for its listing, and check the exact model and configuration locally.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is the choice to investigate if you want the opposite of a visually dramatic GT: a large, established flagship-sedan format with electric propulsion. Car and Driver’s comparison does not give a direct interior-size measurement against Type 01, nor does it establish that the i7 is the right choice for every passenger or luggage requirement. Visit the car, try the seats you expect to use, and see whether its footprint suits your parking and daily routine.

Its 285–301-mile estimated range puts it in a different listed band from the Air and closer to the Taycan and e-tron GT. That does not make the cars interchangeable. The i7’s defining point in this comparison is its full-size 7 Series role; a range number cannot tell you whether that body style is what you want. Evaluate the car as a complete package—shape, cabin use, driving character, charging access and actual price—not as a figure on a table.

What the published prices and ranges can—and cannot—tell you

The prices are starting points for the specified U.S. model-year listings, not quotes for a particular vehicle. Trim, options, dealer inventory, incentives and location can change what a buyer can actually obtain. Likewise, EPA-estimated or listed range is useful for comparing configurations on a consistent basis, but it is not a promise of range on every drive. Weather, speed, route, tires and equipment can affect the distance a vehicle covers between charges.

Keep the source and model year attached to every figure. The table’s four starting prices and range bands come from Car and Driver’s 2026 luxury EV listing. Lucid’s U.S. page is a separate, current manufacturer source that gives an advertised starting price of $70,900 and projected range up to 512 miles depending on trim. Those are not replacement values for the table; they should be read in their own context. Prices and availability are volatile, and the Car and Driver listing does not establish local inventory, incentives, or a guaranteed transaction price.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Range is especially easy to overread when the numbers are presented as a single model-level band. The Taycan’s listed 251–293 miles, Air’s 420–480 miles, e-tron GT’s 278–300 miles and i7’s 285–301 miles are published source figures, not promises that every trim will produce the same result for every driver. Lucid’s “up to 512 miles” is a manufacturer-page projection tied to trim, not the same figure as Car and Driver’s EPA-estimated band. Confirm the exact configuration and applicable rating before comparing a specific pair of cars.

Use your own driving pattern to make the range comparison practical. Think about the longer journeys you take, how often you can charge at home or elsewhere, and whether you want a larger buffer between charging stops. The source comparison does not provide route-specific range predictions or charging-network comparisons for these models, so those questions need to be checked for the exact car and places you drive. A headline estimate alone cannot answer them.

Home charging may also be part of the ownership plan. A Level 2 home EV charger is a relevant product to investigate, but charger compatibility and installation cannot be assumed from this comparison. Before choosing equipment, check the vehicle’s connector and charging requirements, the home’s electrical circuit, and the installation arrangement with qualified help as appropriate. The comparison information does not validate a particular charger, connector, circuit or installation plan, so it would be premature to name one as a fit for every buyer.

Body size and cabin space matter as much as the headline figures if the Type 01’s shape is your starting concern. The source comparison does not supply consistent cabin dimensions for all four models, so it cannot support a precise space ranking. Sit in the front and rear seats, check cargo access with your usual luggage, and consider whether a low roof, long body or full-size sedan footprint fits your daily parking and passenger needs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Car and Driver says its ranking draws on extensive instrumented testing and editorial judgment across about 200 data points, from acceleration and handling to comfort and cargo space. Use it as one structured comparison rather than a prediction of your personal preference. A test drive in the configuration you would buy is especially useful when deciding between a performance-oriented car and a larger flagship sedan.

A practical shortlist and test-drive checklist

Before you visit a seller, write down what you mean by “not the Type 01’s styling.” If it is the long bonnet and low roofline, pay particular attention to the Air and i7’s sedan formats. If you dislike Jaguar’s design cues but still want a low, athletic car, compare the Taycan and e-tron GT. If the real concern is how a car fits your passengers or parking space, make those practical checks rather than relying on a general description of the body shape.

  • Compare the exact trim. Confirm its current starting or configured price and the range figure that applies to that version. Do not merge Car and Driver’s listings with Lucid’s separate manufacturer figures.
  • Check local availability and offers. Published starting prices are not transaction quotes, and Car and Driver’s listing does not establish inventory or incentives in your area. Ask what is actually available where you live.
  • Try the seating and cargo space. Sit in the front and rear seats, bring or measure the luggage you normally carry, and check whether loading access works for you. There are no consistent cabin measurements here to substitute for that visit.
  • Consider your routes and charging. Compare the range band with the journeys you make and the charging access you can arrange. If planning home charging, verify compatibility and electrical installation details before buying equipment.
  • Drive the car you would buy. Editorial testing is useful, but your preference may differ. Try the configuration you are considering and judge its driving character, comfort, sightlines and everyday fit for yourself.

Which luxury EV should you consider?

  • Choose the Porsche Taycan if driving character matters more than having the longest listed range.
  • Choose the Lucid Air if range and an elegant, spacious sedan format top your list.
  • Choose the Audi e-tron GT if you want a sleek, quick performance sedan with Audi styling.
  • Choose the BMW i7 if you want a full-size flagship sedan rather than a visually dramatic GT.

Before settling on one, compare the exact trims you can buy, confirm their current U.S. prices and range ratings, and test the seating, cargo access and driving position. The four options answer different objections to the Type 01’s styling; none is a one-for-one replacement for its particular grand-touring design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best electric luxury cars to consider instead of the Jaguar Type 01?

For a performance-sedan character, consider the Porsche Taycan; for range and an elegant sedan format, the Lucid Air; for a sleek performance alternative, the Audi e-tron GT; and for a full-size flagship sedan, the BMW i7. They offer different body styles and priorities rather than serving as interchangeable substitutes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should I consider instead of the Jaguar Type 01 if I dislike its styling?

Start by identifying what you dislike. If it is the low roof and long-bonnet GT shape, look at the more conventional sedan formats of the Lucid Air or BMW i7. If you still want a low, athletic car but prefer a different design vocabulary, consider the Porsche Taycan or Audi e-tron GT.

How much range does the Lucid Air have?

Car and Driver lists the 2026 Air at 420–480 miles of EPA-estimated range. Lucid’s U.S. page separately advertises projected range up to 512 miles depending on trim. These figures have different sources and contexts; confirm the applicable range for the exact trim rather than treating them as equivalent.

Is the Jaguar Type 01 available to buy now?

Jaguar announced Type 01 on October 6, 2026, says orders are expected to open in early 2027, and expects first customer deliveries in the second half of 2027. It is a future purchase, not a car with established customer ownership or independent road-test results yet.

Are the published prices and ranges guaranteed?

No. The prices are source-page starting figures for U.S. 2026 listings, not guaranteed transaction prices. Range figures are estimates or manufacturer projections with source- and trim-specific context; actual availability and applicable figures should be confirmed for the vehicle you are considering.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should I check before buying a home EV charger for one of these cars?

Check the chosen vehicle’s connector and charging requirements, your home’s electrical circuit, and installation requirements. This comparison does not validate a particular charger or installation arrangement, so confirm compatibility before buying equipment.

The Bottom Line

If the Type 01’s low-roof, long-bonnet GT shape is the issue, choose the alternative that changes the right thing: the Lucid Air for range and a spacious sedan format, the BMW i7 for a full-size flagship role, or the Taycan and Audi e-tron GT if you still want a performance-oriented sedan in a different design language. Compare the exact trim, current local price, applicable range figure and your own space and charging needs before deciding.
