For a 2024-model-year compact luxury SUV, the Genesis GV70 is the strongest overall starting point: Kelley Blue Book ranked it first on its 2024 list, and Edmunds called it a high performer. That is an editorial lead, not a universal winner. The Mercedes-Benz GLC, Acura RDX, BMW X3 and Lexus NX each make a different case, from refinement and efficiency to value and cargo room.

This is a U.S. guide to 2024 models, not a recommendation for what to buy new today. The figures below are publisher-reported, not independent test results; check the exact trim, fees, warranty terms and local availability before deciding.

How to choose among these 2024 compact luxury SUVs

Start with what matters most in your daily use, then compare equivalent trims rather than relying on a brand name or a base price alone. Kelley Blue Book says its ratings consider value, features, driving performance, cargo space, technology, fuel economy and build quality. Those are useful comparison axes, but your priorities may weight them differently.

  • For an all-around pick: consider the Genesis GV70.
  • For a smooth, refined character and reported fuel economy: consider the Mercedes-Benz GLC.
  • For value and standard equipment: consider the Acura RDX.
  • For a balance of everyday driving and utility: consider the BMW X3.
  • For an upscale interior and standard driver-assist features: consider the Lexus NX.

Edmunds’ 2024 roundup reported the following starting MSRPs, combined fuel-economy figures and maximum cargo capacities. They are publisher-listed comparison figures, not a harmonized independent test; prices may use different conventions, and equipment and capacity can vary by configuration.

2024 model Starting MSRP reported by Edmunds Combined mpg reported by Edmunds Maximum cargo capacity reported by Edmunds Best fit by editorial characterization
Genesis GV70 $46,500 24 mpg 28.9 cu. ft. Strong all-around candidate
Mercedes-Benz GLC $48,600 28 mpg 21.9 cu. ft. Refinement and efficiency
Acura RDX $45,700 23 mpg 29.5 cu. ft. Value and standard features
BMW X3 $46,900 25 mpg 28.7 cu. ft. Daily driving and utility
Lexus NX $39,455 28 mpg 22.7 cu. ft. Interior quality and driver assists

All figures in the table are attributed to Edmunds’ 2024 roundup; they should not be read as today’s prices or as guarantees for every trim. The price sources do not provide a single matched-trim comparison. For example, an Edmunds comparison syndicated by the Associated Press gave the GLC an approximate starting price of $48,250 including destination. That is a separate published figure from Edmunds’ $48,600 starting MSRP, not a directly interchangeable price.

Best overall candidate: Genesis GV70

Kelley Blue Book named the 2024 GV70 the top-rated vehicle on its luxury compact SUV list and awarded it 4.8 out of 5 stars. Edmunds also described it as a high performer. Together, those judgments make it the best-supported lead pick in this group if you want a well-rounded luxury SUV rather than a vehicle chosen for one narrow advantage.

  • Compact Size: With its compact 1:64 scale, this model is perfect for display or adding to your collection.
  • Premium Quality: Made from high-quality materials for long-lasting durability and enjoyment.

Edmunds reported a $46,500 starting MSRP, 24 mpg combined and 28.9 cubic feet of maximum cargo capacity for the 2024 GV70. Treat those as Edmunds’ figures, not a promise about a particular trim or transaction. The Associated Press’ 2024 Edmunds comparison also said the GV70 has longer warranty coverage than the GLC; compare the applicable warranty terms directly if that distinction matters to you.

Best for refinement: Mercedes-Benz GLC

Edmunds characterizes the 2024 GLC as focused on smoothness and refinement. Its roundup lists 28 mpg combined, the highest combined figure among these five entries, alongside 21.9 cubic feet of maximum cargo capacity—the lowest listed here. That makes the GLC worth considering if refinement and the reported efficiency figure matter more to you than maximum cargo room.

Edmunds lists a $48,600 starting MSRP. Separately, an Edmunds comparison syndicated by the Associated Press reported an approximate $48,250 starting price including destination. Because these are different published figures and conventions, do not treat them as a like-for-like price comparison. Check the destination charge and equipment on the exact vehicle you are considering.

Best for value and standard equipment: Acura RDX

The RDX’s case is value rather than prestige. Car and Driver says its lower price and abundant standard features make it compelling for buyers seeking a “ritzier Honda CR-V.” Its review concludes, “That’s why we think the 2024 RDX is best suited for people who prioritize strong value versus superficial prestige.” That is the publication’s editorial opinion, not an objective ranking.

Edmunds reported a $45,700 starting MSRP, 23 mpg combined and 29.5 cubic feet of maximum cargo capacity for the 2024 RDX. It has the largest maximum cargo figure in this five-model comparison. Compare standard equipment and the actual feature content of equivalent trims before deciding whether its value advantage holds for your needs.

Best balanced daily driver: BMW X3

Edmunds describes the 2024 X3 as balancing daily-driver capability with luxury and utility. Its reported figures—$46,900 starting MSRP, 25 mpg combined and 28.7 cubic feet maximum cargo capacity—place it near the middle of this group on each of those measures. That makes it a sensible cross-shop if you want a broad mix rather than the highest listed cargo capacity or fuel-economy figure.

Best all-around alternative: Lexus NX

Edmunds points to the NX’s upscale, high-quality interior and standard driver-assist features. It reported a $39,455 starting MSRP, 28 mpg combined and 22.7 cubic feet maximum cargo capacity for the 2024 model. Kelley Blue Book characterizes the NX as reflecting the marque’s strengths in quality, safety and resale value; that is KBB’s assessment, not a measured resale forecast for a specific vehicle.

The NX’s lower Edmunds-listed starting MSRP and 28-mpg figure may appeal if price and fuel economy are priorities, but its reported maximum cargo capacity is below the GV70, RDX and X3. Compare the specific NX powertrain and trim you want, since the figures here do not establish a trim-to-trim match across the shortlist.

What to verify before buying a 2024 model

These are historical 2024-model-year comparisons, not current new-car shopping recommendations. Prices, incentives, inventory and availability change, and the reviewed publisher figures do not settle local dealer pricing or the equipment on a particular vehicle.

  1. Match the trim and powertrain. Compare vehicles with similar equipment and drivetrain rather than treating base MSRPs as equivalent offers.
  2. Confirm the full price. Ask whether the displayed price includes destination, dealer-installed options, taxes and fees; the GLC figures cited above illustrate why source conventions matter.
  3. Check real-world practicality for your needs. Verify the cargo area and passenger space in person with your usual passengers, child seats or luggage. Maximum cargo figures alone do not establish everyday usability.
  4. Read coverage terms. Compare the warranty and maintenance coverage documents for the exact model and year. The AP/Edmunds comparison supports a GV70-versus-GLC warranty distinction, but individual coverage terms should be verified.
  5. Check local availability and condition. A 2024 vehicle may be offered as new, used or not available locally; confirm status, history and any remaining coverage with the seller.
