It is not a production revival: Renault calls it a unique design exercise and says it will not be sold.
What Renault has revealed
Renault describes the R8 Gordini Concept as a two-seat electric coupé with a motor mounted at the rear and stated output of 270 hp. The company gives its dimensions as 4.12 m long, 1.88 m wide and 1.27 m tall. Front wheels measure 19 inches; the rear wheels are 20 inches. These are manufacturer specifications for a concept, not independently measured road-car results. Renault’s concept overview
The concept’s blue body and twin white stripes recall the Gordini identity. Renault also highlights six round headlights, a V-shaped bonnet, a broad stance and an interior with black bucket seats trimmed in blue corduroy, leather and Alcantara, plus round digital gauges. They are show-car design details, not confirmed specifications for a future model. Renault’s design announcement
How it compares with the original R8 Gordini
The modern concept borrows the original’s rear-engine, rear-drive character and motorsport associations, but changes the car’s format and propulsion. Renault says the original Renault 8 Gordini launched in 1964 with a 95-hp rear-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive. The company describes it as capable but demanding, requiring advanced driving skills, and says it became a training car for a generation of drivers. Its twin white stripes became a defining visual signature. Renault’s R8 Gordini heritage page

Renault’s heritage page links the original with rally competition. Renault Classic’s historical rally document says the car made its first official competition appearance at the Tour of Corsica on November 7–8, after its Paris Motor Show launch. That account establishes the competition connection; it does not provide a basis here for a rally win tally. Renault Classic’s rally history document
Why the concept has larger rear wheels
The front-to-rear wheel-size difference—19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear—is an intentional part of the design. Renault VP Design Alexandre Malval said, “The decision to make the rear wheels larger creates a visual sense of momentum: a nod to the rear layout that was the hallmark of the hugely enjoyable ride delivered by the original.” Renault says the concept was developed in-house through a design competition that generated more than 300 sketches; two projects were chosen for scale mock-ups before the final direction was developed. - A great gift idea!
Malval described the aim as joining the marque’s heritage with contemporary design: “With Renault 8 Gordini Concept, we wanted to spark emotion by drawing on both our heritage and modern times, bringing together the icons of yesterday and the future. This exercise in style sets out to reinvent Renault 8 Gordini for the modern day. The aim of this coupé is to inspire emotion and capture the imagination of all car enthusiasts. And when I talk about emotion, I’m not talking about nostalgia, but real passion for cars.” Renault’s design announcement
Will Renault sell the electric Gordini?
No. Renault’s FAQ says the car is a unique example, a pure design exercise, and will not be sold. The announcement is not a production-car reveal, so Renault has given no release date, price or reservation details for a road-going version. Renault’s concept overview and FAQ
