It was a compelling pick, but not a universal ranking: the show’s standout vehicles ranged from production-form crossovers to a preview SUV and an electric vehicle announced with an estimated range.
Cars.com’s Best in Show: 2019 Lincoln Aviator
Cars.com’s editors selected the 2019 Lincoln Aviator as their Best in Show. The vehicle on display was a production preview: Cars.com said it was close to what buyers would see at dealerships, while noting that some details could still change. Its rear-wheel-drive platform, styling and cabin resemblance to the larger Navigator helped make it a high-profile debut. Cars.com’s Best in Show coverage details the selection.
That distinction matters: the award was Cars.com’s editorial choice, not a decision by a single show-wide jury ranking every vehicle against the same criteria.
Production-form SUV debuts
2019 Acura RDX and RDX A-Spec
Acura presented the third-generation 2019 RDX and its RDX A-Spec variant in production form. The company announced a planned mid-2018 launch, making the RDX a useful contrast to the Aviator, which was shown as a preview. Acura’s announcement describes the production-form debut and launch timing.

2019 Toyota RAV4 and 2019 Subaru Forester
The all-new RAV4 and Forester were among the show’s important mainstream SUV debuts. They represented redesigns in high-volume segments, but the available show coverage does not provide a comparative road test or evidence for declaring one the better vehicle. The New York Auto Show archive lists both debuts.
2019 Cadillac XT4 and Lexus UX
Cars.com’s post-show recap also called out the Cadillac XT4 and Lexus UX among the notable SUV introductions. They broadened the show’s crossover story into compact and luxury-oriented territory; the recap does not establish a head-to-head quality ranking. Cars.com’s show recap names both.

Electrification: 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric
The show archive reported Hyundai’s 2018 estimate of 250 miles of range for the 2019 Kona Electric. That was a manufacturer estimate announced at the time, not an independently measured result or a claim about the vehicle’s current real-world range. The show archive records the figure as an estimate.
Other debuts worth noting
The production 2019 Honda Insight hybrid and Toyota Corolla Hatchback also made their debuts at the show. Car and Driver’s contemporary preview framed the event as a mix of performance cars and replacements for high-volume models, including the Nissan Altima and RAV4. How to interpret “best” at the show
There was no single evidence-based ranking across all these vehicles. Cars.com made an attributed editorial selection, while the show archive and contemporary coverage document debuts and manufacturer announcements. Those sources support comparing the vehicles by market, body style, propulsion and how close each was to production—not by ride, reliability, safety, price or ownership costs, which would require separate comparative testing.
