The story traces back to the 2006 premiere of Mission: Impossible III: reports say Tom Cruise arrived in a Bugatti Veyron and struggled to open the passenger door for Katie Holmes. The often-repeated claim that Bugatti then banned him from buying another car is not confirmed by an official company statement or record in the sources reviewed.
What happened at the premiere?
Automotive outlets recount Cruise arriving at the 2006 Mission: Impossible III premiere in a Bugatti Veyron and having difficulty opening the passenger door for Holmes. Sport Auto and Auto.cz describe the episode.
The accounts establish neither a mechanical fault nor why the door did not open promptly. They do not support diagnosing the car or assigning blame to Cruise or Holmes.
Did Bugatti really ban Tom Cruise?
That is the claim attached to the anecdote, but the evidence cited for it is secondary reporting, not an official Bugatti confirmation. Sport Auto repeats the alleged purchasing ban, while Auto.cz presents it as a report rather than a verified company announcement. A 2025 report by Okaz also repeats the story without direct company confirmation in the article text reviewed.

No official Bugatti or Cruise statement, or company record confirming a ban, appears in these sources. The accurate description is therefore that Cruise was rumored or reported to have been barred from buying another Bugatti—not that a formal ban is established.
