Yes—BMWBLOG reported in April 2025 that freelance creative director Simon von Broich and his team had built a private, GT3-style conversion based on a production BMW M3 Touring, including tailor-made bodywork. It was inspired by BMW’s April Fools’ concept, but the report does not establish that the car was an FIA-homologated or competition-ready GT3 racer. It is also a different vehicle from BMW M Motorsport’s official M3 Touring 24H, developed later for the 2026 Nürburgring program.
Was the April Fools’ BMW M3 Touring GT3 car actually built?
According to BMWBLOG’s report of 3 April 2025, Simon von Broich and his team turned a production-spec M3 Touring into a GT3-style wagon after BMW’s April Fools’ concept prompted interest in the idea. The report describes a real private build, not just a rendering or concept proposal. BMWBLOG’s account is the available source for this car’s construction details; BMW has not published an official technical specification for the private project.
“GT3-style” is the important qualification. The reporting does not establish that this private car was homologated, entered in competition, or built to FIA GT3 regulations. The word “EVO” in the April Fools’ concept’s styling reference should not be taken as proof that the private build is an M4 GT3 EVO-based race car.
What custom bodywork does the private build have?
BMWBLOG describes newly fabricated body panels, wider fenders, custom side glass and air inlets molded into the rear doors. The look is linked to BMW’s M4 GT3 Evo. The account does not specify the panels’ materials, dimensions, fabrication process or engineering tolerances, so those details cannot be stated as established facts.

How is it different from BMW’s official M3 Touring 24H?
BMW M Motorsport later developed a separate competition car, the BMW M3 Touring 24H. BMW says the plan became concrete in summer 2025 after the response to its 1 April 2025 concept post. The official project used the basic M3 Touring body and the M4 GT3 EVO technical base; it was assigned to the SPX class and fielded by Schubert Motorsport for the 2026 Nürburgring program. BMW’s description of its 24H car includes design work absent from the private-build account. BMW says initial real-world tests took place at Miramas in February 2026. Its July 2026 retrospective reports the official car finished fourth overall at the Nürburgring 24 Hours after the car initially classified second was disqualified. BMW M Motorsport says it published the concept on 1 April 2025, and that strong audience interest helped inspire the later official project. In a 2026 account, BMW said the post had reached more than one million users and received more than 1.6 million views; those figures describe the post’s reported reach and views, not the private build or the 24H car.
