The 2025 Acura TLX Type S makes 355 horsepower, but its original $58,050 MSRP was nearly twice the $29,600 starting MSRP of a 2026 Toyota Camry. “New Camry money” is a catchy comparison, not a literal match: these are different model years and very different trim levels. Acura ended TLX production in July 2025, so shoppers today are looking at remaining inventory or used cars—not a continuing new-model line.
How much did the TLX Type S cost compared with a Camry?
Acura listed the 2025 TLX Type S at $58,050 MSRP. Its January 2025 pricing announcement gave $59,245 as the price including a then-listed $1,195 destination and handling charge. The $58,050 MSRP excludes destination, taxes, license, registration, premium paint, and accessories; Acura also noted that dealer prices may vary. Neither figure is a current transaction price.
Toyota lists the 2026 Camry with a starting MSRP of $29,600. On those published starting figures, the Type S’s original MSRP was nearly double the price of an entry-level Camry. The comparison puts a performance-focused Acura trim beside Toyota’s base starting point, not two similarly equipped cars. Local pricing, discounts, and the prices of used TLX Type S models are not established by these manufacturer figures.

What does the TLX Type S offer for the price?
Acura’s 2025 specifications list a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 rated at 355 hp at 5,500 rpm and 354 lb-ft of torque from 1,400 to 5,000 rpm. The Type S uses Acura’s SH-AWD. Those figures and the performance-oriented trim distinguish it from the Camry comparison; they do not make the cars equivalent in price or purpose.
For the 2025 TLX Type S, Acura published EPA fuel-economy figures of 19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. These are the manufacturer’s published EPA ratings, not a promise of real-world mileage.

What does the 2026 Camry offer instead?
Toyota lists up to 232 net combined horsepower and up to an estimated 51 mpg combined for the 2026 Camry. It is offered with front-wheel drive or available electronic on-demand all-wheel drive. The horsepower figure is a manufacturer-published hybrid-system output; the fuel-economy figure is an estimate, not a tested real-world result. These specifications describe a different value proposition from the TLX Type S’s turbocharged V6 and SH-AWD: the Camry’s published figures emphasize efficiency and a lower entry price, while the Acura’s headline figure is its greater engine output.

Can you still buy a new TLX Type S?
Acura announced on July 23, 2025 that TLX production would conclude that month. Its statement said the decision was made “to better align with the evolving needs of our customers and the changing landscape of the automotive industry.” The announcement also reported nearly 1.2 million TL and TLX units sold over the models’ history; that is a combined historical figure, not Type S sales.

Is the TLX Type S a Camry alternative?
It is useful to compare them if the question is how much more Acura’s performance trim originally cost than Toyota’s entry-level sedan, or how their published power, drivetrain, and efficiency figures differ. It is not an apples-to-apples price comparison: the TLX Type S was a high-performance trim with a $58,050 original MSRP, while $29,600 is the 2026 Camry’s starting MSRP. For shoppers today, the TLX’s discontinued status adds another practical distinction: availability depends on remaining stock or the used market.
